He's the type of player you can build your team around for years to come. Get rid of Lo Celso and Winks, that would cover half of his fee. He would cost astronomic amount of money, but it is with very-high risk.
Just look at the list of players flopping badly coming over from Bundesliga - Kagawa, Mhkytarian, Sancho, Werner.
Also I feel Dortmund is very good at making players looking better than they really are. Looking at their top 15 departures I noticed TWO names that has gone on to be long term success after leaving - Gundogan and Hummels. And at that Hummels has also returned to Dormund by now. Plus ofc we don't know how Haaland will do.

There was just some kind of bigger data-set that suggested that players output coming over from BL to EPL will decrease 38%...

So basically we would have to pay world-class player fee for youngster, who quite possibly will be nothing more than "okay" player in EPL.

If we go for youth players I would like to see us either snatching them before they hit the stage (like Alli for example) or then young prospects proven in Champo (Watkins, Maddisson, Toney, Bowden). But to pay world class fee for player that might never become truly world-class. I have my reservations.

While I agree that the Bundesliga is an average league, anyone with eyes and a bit of sense can see what a player Bellingham is and will become. Also completely daft to write off Sancho as a flop after one season in the Premier League. Like most foreign players (he never played in the Premier League before) he needs to be given a season to properly adapt.

I generally agree.
And it is one of the reasons why I dislike idea of going for Dybala now- aging player, injury issues and declining output ; comes as free agent so demands lot of wages + bonuses.

But there are also some specific cases - like for example Eriksen and Bale.
First coming with this increased health risk, has history with Spurs and most likely does not have too many CL level options around.
Second has already filled his bank account with bags of money from Real and lot of clubs being worried with all the baggage that comes with him. But with us he was still useful one season ago...

So for that kind of deals (for reasonable wages+bonuses) it could be different.
But for example with Dybala we would be forced to ship out crazy sums for "free" player.

Yea, that is fair.
It is too early to write off Sancho fully. I was more commenting on his current situation. He totally could turn fortunes around. Though I do not rate him as high as some do. For England I have not been too blown away by his performances generally.

Doesn't change my point that if Conte wants him, we go for him. IF Conte wanted him, presumably he'd have a plan for him.

And also Sancho plays for United. Just like how the poster mentioned Dortmund are good at making players look great, I feel like United are good at making players look bad.

But call me an optimist - I prefer to see discussion on top of it.

I just pointed out some facts - like that he has scored only 47 goals across past 4 seasons. Which makes on average less than 12 goals per season. And he is close to 29 so hardly a young prospect. Why should we pay him large salary based on this info? While our 2 starting attackers are 29 and 30 respectively?
