Dean Smith sacked: 15th
Gerrard finished: 14th

I agree- think they screwed up sacking Dean Smith too early. He had a good thing going for them. Seems like they got a bit of an irrational hard-on for Gerrard, and that Gerrard himself may have been a bit overeager to manage in the prem, which doesn't seem like any long-term recipe for success to me. As for Villa, they've barely gotten back up and have no business sacking their managers on account of a poor early season start. Can't see it ending well, but don't really give AF since it's Villa...

Tanganga - £15m
Rodon - £10m (Probably owe money, but not much)
Clarke - £10m

Total: £106m
I keep forgetting we've still got Jack Clarke...

I'd like to keep him (and maybe loan him out again) for one more season... just in case there's a Sessegnon in there somewhere, you never know!

I agree with the rest, but still think we should keep hold of Forrest Whitteker (Tanganga) & Joe Rodon for at least another season... even if it's out on Loan.
I reckon we will keep one of them (dunno which one yet, mind) 'cos you NEVER know... there might still be a player or two in there!

Does this look right for our current squad?

Clarke no longer U21 - Surely one for the chopping block!

Association trained: Davies, Doherty, Rodon, Austin , Sessegnon, Clarke, Foster
Club trained: Kane, Winks, Tanganga, Whiteman, CCV, Skipp

Foreign: Royal, Bergwijn, Dier, Højbjerg, Lloris, Lo Celso, Moura, Ndombele, Reguilón, Sánchez, Son Heung-min, Romero, Golini, Kulusevski, Bentancaur

U21: excluded from squad count (Gil, Sarr)

Total : 27 (up to 25)
HOMEGROWN : 13 (min 8)
FOREIGN : 14 (max 17)

29 players in the 1st team squad. Rules are different in the EPL and UEFA.
Gil and Sarr are classed as U21 in EPL and do not have to be included in the squad:

-I agree that Bastoni looks superior to Pau Torres. I'm interested of course in Gvardiol, but Evan Ndicka (who i didn't previously realize was left-footed) seems an intriguing potential alternative.

-If we get Kostic, it seems like an end to Reggie's time here. Can Kostic play at RWB as well? If so that wouldn't necessarily signal the sale of Reggie...

-Am seeing a lot of chatter about Spence, but am not really sold on him being any kind of surefire improvement at RWB. He has some nice footwork and attacking play in his highlight reels, but his season output seems pretty underwhelming for a 46 game season (3g/5a). If he is a long-term HG buy, I say buy him and loan him back to Forest immediately for a season-long loan...

-I really am hoping we go for Stephane Singo instead, who is much bigger physically than Spence, and is already proven in a top tier European league. I especially mention his physique since this gives him a chance to be useful at RCB as well as potentially CB, and therefore less chance of being a total loss/failure of a signing.

-Doherty can play LWB and RWB and makes a perfect 'flex' 5th WB for our depth chart next season

-Is Lingard actually a decent "versatile attacker" option as he is both free and homegrown? Does this put a big premium on potentially signing Sterling too?

-If we do our business right, I think we should aim to sustain a title challenge until at least January xfer window, as well as qualify from our CL group. I think that would be a pretty decent season, all things considered.

Living the dream:

IN: Bastoni, Kostic, Singo, Bissouma, Eriksen, TBD Attacker, Forster
OUT: Reggie, Rodon, Winks, Gollini, GLC, Ndombele, Clarke, Bergwijn
LOAN: Tanganga, Gil, Sarr, Scarlett, Parrott

So we can buy only 1 more non HG (or 3 Non HG if Sarr and Gil are loaned again) and we can buy 3 players from English clubs.
So we can basically fill our boots!

If Paratici is indeed to be given 150 million then with that amount to spend i cannot believe that there will be a future for:

Berj
Moura
Winks
Doherty or Royal
Tangana
Sanchez

I may be miles off and do realize that we need a quality squad but i would think half of that lot will be gone?

I was also in belief that Sanchez would have to go during the summer.

But his very solid performances where he had to step in for Romero, coupled with the fact that we will be looking into 60 games season (38 in EPL; 6 in CL group + FA CUP + Carabao - we'll have 46 games guaranteed; then up to 7 games in UCL playoff, up to 5 in Carabao and up to 5 in FA cup; I would assume that we would get further 4+4+3 for example - that would raise total to 57 with max being 63 games) and Romero only managed to play 30 - it will mean that strong back-up is needed.
Plus also I did not take granted we would get into CL which will raise number of high-profile games.
Plus except for Romero, Dier and Davies managed to stay injury free, but we have no guarantees they manage the same next year.

So I would not have much against Sanchez going, though Rodon should be in this list.
