He's on stupid wages, I remember a report detailing why Barca were bankrupt last year and it showed what the players salaries were and if I recall he was on something like £300k a week or something.

In that case we should 100% get Eriksen back.

Could play in a two against weaker teams and has also performed brilliantly in the two behind the striker for us in exactly the same wingback system under Poch.

Also won’t prevent the development of Sarr and Skipp who we seem to have placed a lot of faith in

Was actually €400,000

So with a completely straight face, you're saying Skipp can play in midfield for a team challenging for a title.
A player with about half a season of top level football experience.
I don't see what the length of experience has to do. If he's good enough and has a high footballing IQ all this goes out the window. A year younger and he bossed the Championship, which is not an easy league to play in. And he was excellent in the half season he played at top level. So yeah, I think he'll do for a Conte team challenging for a title.

If bossing the Championship is so hard, why do most promoted teams go straight back down?

I'm not saying PEH or Bentancur are the midfielders we need to win the league. but Skipp isn't. Without a shadow of a doubt, we're not going to push Liverpool and City all the way with any 2 of those 3 playing week in week out.

Not said you did, but the argument pertains to whether Doherty should start..... Your last post compares the respective amount of credit he & Royal gets...... Thus my comment.
I was just aswering the guy that stated Doherty isn't good enough and doesn't deserve prise. If we improve on him, nice, I would like that too, if we doesn't I wouldn't bother much as he adapted very well to Conte's tactics, it seems. I criticised him almost every game he played since the arrival, but he was outstanding in his last games for us and if he keeps that form I wouldn't mid him starting either.

Surely there will be two big money players coming in. 50 m or more. One should be a CB but what about the other? Wouldn't De Jong be a great addition and fit? If Barca want to sell him and he wants UCL then could there be a chance of signing him over Man u even with Ten Hag there?

De Jong's wages are out of line with our budget. He's on 400 grand a week. And he doesn't have that much of an engine.

Having a more creative midfielder would be nice, but they also need to have an engine and be able to pull off the defensive work when required.

A) I don't know that you're right on any of these

B) Even if you are, just because they aren't fit to start a home and away against Madrid or Bayern doesn't mean they aren't fit to have a major part in a CL/PL contending team. Not all the matches are against Madrid or Bayern. Having quality squad players who can dispatch 75% of the league fairly comfortably is key.
I take your point but imho, they are simply too ordinary. Our bench needs to be as strong as other competitive top class teams. These guys are simply stop gaps. We can do better.

I don't think De Jong represents very good value for money given what Barca are looking to get for him and what his wages are. He doesn't want to leave Barca either by all accounts, would be a real uphill battle to get him to come here when I think if you have 75m euro and 400k a week you can go and get someone who fits us better no problem, I think Milinkovic-Savic would be very gettable with those numbers.
