Bissouma last season was unbelievable, maybe Rice and Rodri where better in the 6 role if we push it and that’s about it and Rice is a very different skill set, he rarely ever gets dominated against, if he was English our midfield would have much better balance.

I was worried Woolwich would get him that’s how good he is.

You think Rice was better than Fabinho?

I saw teams run rings round Rice (including our not exactly expansive bunch), and that’s even with Wham basically playing a very risk averse bus park 85% of the time. Unlike City and Liverpool.

I really think Rice’s defensive game is over stated, and I’ll be interested to see how he gets on when/if he gets to play with a more expansive/progressive team where he isn’t doing most of his defensive work on the 30 yard line, compressed between a back line and front defensive line.

Nearly 70 million for Raphinha is a lot when we already have Kulusevski in his best position. I get we need depth but that's not a depth signing, that's someone you want to come in and immediately be winning you points.

Would be an exciting transfer .. but almost half the so called war chest (before signing on fees, wages etc) blown on a depth player would be risky.

Rice came up against our lot who were fresh when he'd just played 120 minutes vs Sevilla in which he was everywhere and man of the match. He also was an absolute wall in numerous other big games in the season, including the 3-2 win over Liverpool. Every midfielder will have poor games, especially in teams which aren't dominant.

His defensive game is statistically and visibly excellent, don't know why you'd think otherwise. There's plenty of times for England where players have space to run in to and he's making up the distance and shutting them down.

Meanwhile in Barcelona

Now that Phillips is gone, a team that barely escaped relegation last season, is even weaker and they may end up having a less motivated Raphinha in their team if they demand so much that no team will meet their asking price...and next season Raphinha will have only a year left of his contract. And should Leeds go down his release clause is automatically set to £25m.

Probably agree with that - and it looks as if the price will be that high with ManU, Chelsea, Woolwich and ourselves interested from Pl and possibly others. Not sure Barcelona will actually go for him given their financial issues and the fact they are rumoured to want Lewandowski

But with Raphina's contract going to 2024, 2 years left, I think Leeds will want to sell him this summer as otherwise his value drops - although its not ideal for them to sell both Raphina and Phillips in same window.

Fabinho was utterly ridiculous this season

He was the best player in the league for me

Thought that was Phillips..... Raphina too?

One thought is that Leeds may not be too eager to agree a lower fee given that if he has a good world cup they'll stand a better chance of scoring a prime fee in Jan and he may just help kick-start their season in the meantime.

Weird how opinions differ .. I thought he had a weaker season by his standards and Rodri was clearly the best DM in the league.

If I was gonna give player of the season to someone from Liverpool, it would've been Alisson.

To be fair VVD and Mane where outstanding again. Player of the season was hard. As for Rice he is class, hard to say as he is a spam player though.

If you look at some of the goalkeeper metrics, Alisson is so far ahead of anyone else in terms of preventing 'expected' goals it's almost ludicrous. So many matches this season where he was just constantly saving their bacon.

VVD, Mane, Salah etc were all excellent but Alisson had a standout silly season. As good as any VVD season but because he's a keeper it seems to go under the radar more.
