This is the kind of signing I don’t understand why we don’t just pay the money and get him. Apparently Boro want 15 million for the guy, that is quite literally pennies for a Champions League PL club now. Why don’t we just pay it if the manager wants him?

We have previous for doing this with Championship players too. Sessengnon and Grealish spring to mind.

We could have got Sessengnon for much cheaper than the eventual 30 million we had to pay for him and we could have got Grealish for a very decent price too if we had just stopped dithering.
Another great post. They're coming thick and fast this morning.

And if we don't think he's even worth the reported £15million Boro want, then why the Holy Fuck are we even interested in signing him!

Because we still have to act like responsible adults. I know some of you would prefer it, if Levy necked some mandy prior to negotiations but that isnt how its done.

Gibson is squeezing every last cent out of his asset and we are trying to agree a fair value, whilst knowing the kid wants to come.

Try and at least be relaxed on transfers for another couple of weeks.

Fab will deliver👍👍

A top team has 2 good players per position that the manager trusts.

GK - Lloris, Forster - check

CB’s - Romero, Davies, Dier, Sanchez, Tanganga, Rodon - need 2 CB’s

Wings backs - Perisic, Sessegnon, Regulion, Royal - need 2 WB’s

Midfield - Skipp, Bissouma, Hojbjerg, Bentancur, Winks, Sarr - need maybe one more if Winks is off and Sarr is loaned.

Attack - Kane, Son, Kulusevski, Lucas, Berg - need 2 more assuming Lucas and Berg aren’t trusted.

That’s about 7 players more needed for Conte to have a squad that would be considered a top team IMO. Spence is coming, we have been linked with getting a striker and 2 CB’s so not far off.

Wow. Another

Finally a sense of realism and common sense seems to be descending on the place

#BackConte

1 CB (first XI)
1 RWB (first XI) I'm not convinced by spence
1 CF (back-up) better if he can play also in the son's position = depay? morata? bergwjin?

to change to much is a big risk, we could lose identity and can lead to dressing-room problems

You forgot Doc who counts as 2.

Because the 15m, apparently, Boro want is probably BS

Still think a LCB has to be a priority along with RWB. Davies improved alot last season, however, if he does get injured we are kinda fucked.

I do agree that the new Chelsea owner will likely not be adverse to dealing with us, and would be very interesting to see what happens with Reece. Besides United, where else would he go in UK? City and Liverpool and sorted in that position.
Agree re LCB but I would take Hakimi now if it meant we take a chance on getting through until end of Nov with Sanchez as back up and sort it then

Don’t think change is a risk with Conte. He is not a project manager, any players that come will have to hit the ground running and if not sit on the bench. The bigger risk with Conte is not getting him what he wants, not being able to challenge City and Liverpool because of it and Conte fucking off end of season.

I would like us to sign him but I don’t think we will - hopeful we pivot to a RWB levels above. Ideally James (<2 years on deal) or Hakimi (unhappy at the PSG circus and Conte heritage).

https://football-italia.net/why-hakimi-is-key-for-skriniar-to-psg/

Inter defender Milan Skriniar is edging closer to a move to Paris Saint-Germain and a key figure in the talks has turned out to be Achraf Hakimi.

The French giants have been in talks with the Nerazzurri for a little while now as they explore the costs of a deal for the 27-year-old Slovakian centre back, who seems destined to be sold this summer as the Milanese club work to generate some funds. Inter want €70m for Skriniar and PSG are slowly edging closer to this figure.

As reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport, Skriniar has given the green light for a move to PSG this summer after speaking with former teammate Hakimi. The pair spoke on the phone and the Moroccan right back discussed the qualities of the project in Paris and his happiness in the French capital.

Skriniar was seemingly convinced by this call, although the €7m net per season salary that he’s expected to earn in Paris will also help sweeten the move.

Should PSG raise their offer a little more, a deal could be reached soon, giving Inter the resources to close out a number of deals.

Watching a game like Uruguay vs Ghana most people outside those countries would be neutral. You are only making a judgement based on the point of view of a fan of the players team, rather than the larger football fanbase. So I don't think it's hard to understand why people who are neutrals would get annoyed by the actions of Suarez. Of course if I was supporting Uruguay then I would be happy.. but in all other cases it would annoy me.

In another scenario and as an example...We all hate to see players dive in the penalty box. If one of our players did that and won us a penalty that got us through to the next round of a knockout tournament some people would say that it's part and parcel of the game now. But any other fan who didn't support our team or was a neutral would not like the actions of the player.

And that is what I was replying about. But people want to home in on just that one thing and one action when the entire discussion was about if we should sign him if he was available. To me Suarez is just not likeable. Yes, he treads the line between right and wrong very finely and would be a good asset to many teams. But I would rather we opted for someone else.

Hardly my problem it people are so limited that they cannot see things from anyone else perspective except their own...

BTW, diving analouge does not quite work. Diving assume you get away with your dirty trick. But Suarez was punished with red card. So way better comparison would be to tackle an attacking player while there is no one between your goal and opposite attacker. So you deny sure goal and will be punished with full force of the "law"...

I agree that Suarez is not generally likable. Nor am I suggesting to sign him.
But this handball represented "winning-at-all-cost" mentality which we could use.

I said change too much.
perisic, forster, bissouma, kulu, benta, romero + more 7 new players in less than 12 months?
I don't think it's the right way
conte has to accept that there is no other way than being a project manager in these times

said that, if the board will change 13-14 players and lead spurs to win EPL or UCL I would change my mind

Why Hakimi is key for Skriniar to PSG - Football Italia

Can imagine there is a big Moroccan presence in Paris too so probably loves the lifestyle. Shame!

There is a pecking order. If City want say Phillips, then other clubs like Woolwich don’t get him.

If we, or Chelsea want say Raphinha then Woolwich don’t get him. Same with Utd and Eriksen.

I don’t understand the melting if Woolwich sign Jesus or Raphinha - that just means we don’t want them and have other targets.

There is plenty of time even before pre-season. People should chill a bit.

Really? I thought Dele went on a free with the only payments being potentials linked to appearances etc, none of which have been met. (I only gleaned that from this forum though, so might be incorrect).

It was undisclosed fee. But there where reports it was £20m and everything beyond that as linked to appearances upto £40m and there have been other reports with different amounts.

We’ve bought well recently so not every future deal has to be amazing value for money. If we have to overpay for a good player, do it - the fees paid for Bissouma, Kulu and Benta and the increase in value offset 60M either of those two
I see where you are coming from and agree about overpaying where necessary. I personally don't believe those two are worth it but happy to be proved wrong. Recent history suggests backing whatever Conte/Paratici bring in and not worrying about star names or massive price tags. For every Kulu see Ndombele, for every Van Dijk see Maguire.
