Our current squad, with adjustment for obvious outgoings. HG quota narrowly met.

There's a bit of an imbalance as we have 12 defenders for 5 positions, but only 9 FWD/MIDs for 5 positions.

We can add another player without having to get rid of anyone else, as long as they are HG.
A non-HG in would mean we need a non-HG out.

Rodon out (loan?) for another CB seems like a no-brainer. An attacking midfielder would also add squad balance. One of those 2 would have to be HG.

Tanganga may as well be loaned as he won't get much game-time, even though we'd be left with a smaller squad.
I don't think you can count the WB as pure defenders, though. And 4/5 for 2 WB positions, given what's asked of them, is not bad. We do need an extra player for the front 3 and we're fine in midfield. I'd have Skipp over Benta, however.

Like I said, he did well when he arrived & then got usurped by Barcelona's 100 odd million quid winger in the same role, as well as a few others who they paid big money for. Not surprising that the player on loan got pushed to the sidelines.

As is the theme at his former clubs.

But as Airfixx pointed out, he did get some minutes but wasn't productive during them. Think he got some matches in Europa and couldn't deliver.

Indeed....

He didn't fair any better despite an even higher amount of minutes in the 2nd tier cups:

.......All of which was in his preferred position; not a WB role that he's not proven to be qualified for.

This isn't really true though..... You're including Rodon & Tanganga whilst neglecting to include Gil & Sarr.

Flip that and it's:

DEF: 10 for 5
ATT/MF: 11 for 5

I cannot see how both Gil and Sarr get in the squad due to HG numbers and squad numbers (23 man squad = 2 players per position plus a 3rd GK).

Likely both go out on loan unless we cannot get better players in.

Yet you included him.
Yes because whether I include Rodon or his CB replacement, it doesn't change the number of CBs.

Gil and Sarr are different as they are likely to be loaned out like last season, and it's not linked to us getting a replacement.

Not what I was suggesting, but without re-crunching the numbers, you're saying that without Rodon (who's not HG in Europe anyway) or Japh, we're consigned ot only having 19 outfield players in the squad? or 21 with them?
That current squad as I listed means we have a maximum of 24 players in our squad overall.
We can't add a non-HG to that (whether Gil, Sarr or a new player) unless you take a non-HG out.

Yeah, I agree with having 5 WBs for the 2 positions, especially as Spence is an unknown quantity.

I think we should keep that squad as I showed in the image, but with Rodon out and a new CB and AM in. One of those 2 will have to be HG. Maddison is an unpopular choice but ticks the boxes.

I suspect if we're up for selling Rodon it doesn't depend on a replacement.

Gil and Sarr as different as they are likely to be loaned out like last season,

I don't think you or I really have that insight...... At least not until the end of the window.

You're talking Domestic here? ......Cos obv. Davies, Doh & Rodon are a curve-ball in terms of Europe.

He won’t rank up with Bissouma or Perisic for elite name but I have been quite excited to get him.

Obviously caught the eye against Woolwich in the cup. He is very raw but we haven’t had a full back/wing back with this level of speed or physical power and aggression since Walker. The game against Woolwich he murdered Martinelli who is one of Arsenals quickest players so having someone who has out and out elite pace will be a benefit.

Don't anyone try to convince me DJ isn't a big upgrade on Doherty or Royale.

Ever.

I think we'll get another CB in this window, but let's see.

Gil/ Sarr won't make the CL squad, and very likely to be both loaned out. Maximum they'll stay till Jan to get some Conte training and League Cup matches, before being loaned out then.

UCL. Domestic we easily make squad requirements. But if we want to fight for trophies on multiple fronts, we need big and balanced squads in both UCL and PL.

Maybe the rest of the window. Apart from outs I reckon we are done for the window.

Roughly 3 weeks until season starts and circa 6 weeks before window closes.

After Spence we might get another (say) two in - but entirely depends upon better players being available in positions we want to fill and other clubs.

Lots of players might move - but who knows whether they are players we want.

No point in buying players unless they improve a squad which is actually of a decent level already.

I'd rate chances of one player coming in as 'quite likely' , and 2 players in 'need a few stars to align'
