If Madison is not productive against parked buses then this whole speech is moot.

Is he? I don't know,
but I'm not the one advocating that we sign him. You've not really sought to answer my point at all......
I don't think Madison (or Leicester) have ever had to face a 'parked bus' formation.... as for most of the 2015/16 season, all they faced was a 'Legs open/come and get it/falling over themselves to lose' formation from pretty much the entire Premier League, hell bent on gifting them the title!!!!

The more I think about it, I think my preferred ending to the window would be Maddison and Marc Guehi. Along with Spence, you've essentially solved your HG issues for next five years or more.

Kane, Skipp, Sess, Spence, Maddison, Guehi, and a backup choice GK with Scarlett, Devine, Parrott, and whoever else from the academy hopefully added in the next few seasons.

I've already said my bit on Maddison, but Guehi had an excellent first PL season at Palace before getting an England call up. Though he's right footed, he's played as a LCB at both Swansea and Palace and is very comfortable with his left foot. FBRef tracks players passing by foot and Guehi's breakdown is 70% right and 30%, this is extremely rare. Most players are in the high 80s or low 90 in preference of their dominant foot. I can't remember seeing numbers so split like Guehi's before. For comparison, the closest in terms or two footed passing in our side is Hojbjerg at 84% right and 16% left.

He'd also very comfortable at CCB rotating with Dier. So essentially you've got a homegrown option who is authetically capable of playing any of the three centerback spots just turned 22 this week. If he's available for 40-45m, I think it could be a great purchase. Especially if we can raise 25m or so from selling Tanganga and Rodon.

A big Tottenham Hotspur claim has emerged on their plans to add to their defence in the summer transfer window…

What’s the talk?
Transfer insider Dean Jones has claimed that Fabio Paratici may wait until January to bolster that area of the pitch as he weighs up what to do between now and the end of August.

When asked about the club’s pursuit of a centre-back, he told GIVEMESPORT: “I think that situation is on pause right now unless a great situation lands on their doorstep.

“I think it’s one they might look at in January after the World Cup. If they feel the first half of the season hasn’t gone their way or it’s left them short, that’s when I think they might look to get another one.

Antonio Conte will be worried
This claim from Jones will surely leave the Italian head coach worried as the centre-back position is in need of strengthening ahead of the 2022/23 campaign.

In the Premier League last season, Japhet Tanganga and Joe Rodon ranked 21st and 23rd in the Spurs squad for average SofaScore ratings. They both averaged scores of 6.65 or lower and Conte rarely looked to them as they made 14 appearances between them in the top flight.

This suggests that the manager does not trust them with regular minutes on the pitch and their dismal ratings indicate that he is well within his right to make that decision.

Ben Davies, who is a left-back by trade, was the main option on the left side of the back three in the Premier League for Conte. He averaged a solid SofaScore rating of 6.88 and won 54% of his duels in the division as he made himself a reliable option.

Whilst he was not a major liability to the team, there is plenty of room for improvement in the left centre-back position. You only have to look at Christian Romero and the impact he made to see how much Spurs could benefit from signing another central defender.

The Argentine international averaged a sublime rating of 7.15 in the top-flight and won 62% of his individual duels as he delivered quality displays on a regular basis for the club.

This is why Conte will be worried by the lack of urgency in the pursuit of a new centre-back as it is a position that is in need of reinforcement ahead of a gruelling Premier League and Champions League campaign.

I hope this guy doesn't try to make a living from football journalism

Otherwise he'd know that a lot of CB's are not moving this window or moving intra Italy despite the lures of Spurs. Which is why its perfectly likely Spurs decided to loan in Lenglet as a low risk option to bring in a CB who might get back to his pre-Barca form so as to give enough solidity to our CB's until more CB's are available in a later window.

Really isn't rocket science that a few minutes on google couldn't find out

where would Maddison fit in Conte's formation ?
thought Maddison is a 10 ?
Conte would likely play 3-5-2 with Maddison rather than 3-4-3. Maddison would probably drop him a little deeper than a true #10 like Conte did with Eriksen at Inter. Conte actually prefers 3-5-2 but we didn’t really the personnel to play it last year. You need a better passing midfield and scoring/creative threats from your wing backs for Conte’s 3-5-2.

Perisic, Maddison, Spence, and a fully integrated Bentancur would allow us to more feasibly play 3-5-2. Any combination of Kane, Son, Richarlison, and Kulusevski can play in the two up front.

Still think we’ll play a lot of 3-4-3 just because Son, Kane, and Kulusevski are so potent up front. But I’d imagine Conte wants the versatility to change formations game to game and in game. Also as mentioned, Maddison can play in a front three if needed.
