I did say upto, never know with replays, when we win champs league and have to play uefa super cup, club world cup .....

I'm too lazy to go and check the exact amount but didn't Liverpool play about 70 games when they last won champs league??
Not really. I think Matt1882 Matt1882 broke the games down and came up with 62. We'd have to play a replay in every league/FA cup game to even get close to 70 and I think they have done away with most of the replays anyway.

But I do get that it's a lot of games in a more compressed amount of time, so fewer days in-between games, meaning more rotation needed.

The here and the now footballing philosophy when buying players is all well and good for clubs like City, Chelsea, United, Madrid, PSG and Barca where wasted millions buying players have no consequences.

FFP is just a pretense that covers up UEFA's inadequacy to actually bite the hand that feeds them.
I wasn't making a case about us being within FFP, however. It was more of a case of us being able to sustain a high level of spending.

How do you come up with 70+ games? Last season Liverpool played the max games any team could play by reaching all its cup finals and ended up playing 60 games. Add the FIFA club world cup and that's 62.
Technically you can finish 3rd in CL group stage and get dropped down to Europa league and play an extra 2 games in the round of 32.

In addition, if all tiebreakers are even while competing for 1st, 4th, 6th, 7th, or 18th in the league, a one-game playoff at a neutral venue determines the league position. So there’s a 3rd game.

Given the world cup players could be playing 65+ highly competitive games fairly easily. I dont know why some seem so scared of a big squad particulaly with 5 subs and champions league. Patently obvious its a strong squad that sets the trophies winners apart from decent sides that might have a good 2 or 3 months.

SMS please

If there's a chance of getting SMS out of Lazio, then Paratici's knowledge of the Italian market will be hugely valuable.

It sounds like we have the cash, and you know Conte will want to spend it. He loved Barella, and SMS may be even better in that role.

Most of Europe's "top clubs" have spent the bulk of their transfer budget, or have needs elsewhere in their squads.

So, I would expect Paratici to be working on a deal like this.

No replays anymore.
I think they might bring them back for the FA cup but only in R3 and R4

Goes to show, once again, that owners bankrolling clubs will come back to bite them eventually, if they don't also have success on the pitch. And confirms that the model ENIC followed, which ensures sustainability regardless of on-pitch results, is the way to go.

With the exception of City and Chelsea, who have an entire country and an owner that made loans without repayment (and that also benefitted from the absence of FFP for several years), the only way to sustain continued spending is by building an infrastructure that will guarantee sustained income. Everton and Leicester are prime examples of what not to do. Remains to be seen how Newcastle will pan out.

Or unless you absolutely boss it in the transfer market and get lucky and get all or the majority your signings right every summer. That and a world class coach given time gives you Liverpool. How long you can hold onto those players and coach then becomes the issues. But if you can keep the ball rolling you’ll be fine for years. The scum had it with wenger and Liverpool have it now.

If not you have to do it the way we have. I think that’s why we are despised by a lot of clubs. It’s because their fans have seen us do it and probably ask why they can’t.

Wasn’t SMS one of the names found on the napkin paratici left in the restaurant when he was Juve sporting director? I could be mistaken though. If not there evidence he likes him.

Yes, but the Napkin Incident (like some bad C-movie) was 2019 when Paratici was at Juve.

SMS is almost ideal for the Conte "Barella" role. The problem is the competition from other top clubs if SMS is available, and the risk of getting gazzumped as with the scousers & Luis Diaz once we establish the price & try to finalise any deal.

Indeed, on another side of the paper were the names Miralem Pjanic and Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, generating speculation of a plan to sign the Lazio star tin exchange for the former Roma man.

Too bad we couldn't get Romero for 20. Zaniola on that list too.

The problem is that the PL is such a financial powerhouse, We can pay so much more in transfers and wages that it's tough to sell players back to other leagues.
