Chelsea close to getting Kounde apparently. Not ideal.

He's a good player but another short arse.
He's class to be fair. Him or Lisandro Martinez would both have been great signings for us, more so the latter given left-footedness.. feel we might be making a mistake holding out for Bastoni/Gvardiol, both very unlikely to join us.

Yeah, if Martinez is who Ajax/United fans are claiming he is, he'd have been a perfect fit for us.

He's not better than Sanchez when we bought him, I really have no clue why would anyone pay such money for him. ManU tax applies ofc, but still their decision making has to be strongly influenced by Ten Hag. If your scouts are worse than Hitchen you gotta rely on someone, lol.
Surely Ten Hag is not that stupid right? He's seen Martinez up close and personal for a long time, he can absolutely sure of every trait Martinez has. Whether it's actual skill, consistency, tactical fit, personality etc.

He's got to be aboslutely certain to stage so much of his credibility on this transfer?

Antonio Conte has described Tottenham Hotspur’s new wing-back Djed Spence as a “club” signing.

Spurs on Tuesday completed a move for Spence. The 21-year-old has signed a five-year contract with the club that includes an initial fee of £12.5million plus a further £7.5million in add-ons.

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy has spent weeks negotiating with Middlesbrough for Spence, who spent last season on loan at Nottingham Forest.

“Spence is an investment of the club,” Conte said. “The club wanted to do it. I said okay, this player is young but he showed he can become a good, important player for us.

“The club decided to buy him.”

Spence’s arrival means Spurs now have four players who can play at right wing-back for Conte.

Matt Doherty made 15 Premier League appearances last season until he was ruled out with a knee injury. He was replaced in Conte’s starting XI by Emerson Royal — who is now poised to leave Spurs — while his Brazilian compatriot Lucas Moura has been used in the position during Tottenham’s pre-season.

Conte added that he was happy with the rest of Tottenham’s business, with Levy and Fabio Paratici delivering their head coach no fewer than six signings this summer.

Conte said: “The club was very clear with me and said we reached an important achievement and … now we want to continue to grow. To grow together with ambition.

“For the club, it has not been simple to go into the transfer market and sign players for free — like (Ivan) Perisic and (Fraser) Forster — and sign players on loan — like (Clement) Lenglet — and sign players with money — like Richarlison and (Yves) Bissouma and Spence.”

Conte won plenty of praise for steering Tottenham back into the Champions League despite their underwhelming start to the season under former manager Nuno Espirito Santo. And the former Chelsea boss unsurprisingly has his sights set higher this time around.

He added: “My target is to try to be competitive. My target is that when the other teams are going to play against Tottenham, they will be, not scared, but a bit worried.

“This is our target. Then I have a group of players that need to have ambition together and to go another step.

“When I arrived in November, I said that if we wanted to try to go up in the table, we would have to go together, to improve the team together, but at the same time, the players have to go to another level. To grow, grow, grow.

“I think we have a young team. We have many players that can play for Tottenham for three or four years together.

“I think we are trying to create a solid foundation, then to go step by step to improve and then in the end to fight for something important.”

Despite drawing attention to Tottenham’s relatively young squad, Conte refused to be drawn on his own future.

The 52-year-old signed an 18-month contract when he joined the club in November 2021 and needed to be convinced by Levy and Paratici to remain in north London this summer.

“You know, football is always very strange,” he said.

“But in this moment I am very happy to stay at Tottenham. I am very happy to work with this group of players, to work with the club. We don’t have a problem and we are trying to create a great group also outside of the pitch with the club.

“In this moment, we have only one target: to go together in the same direction. I think we are doing well with Daniel and with Fabio.”

But Conte could, and should have handled that wording better?

What message does that send out to Djed.

If I were Levy, I'd make Conte put put out a statement clarifying that Djed is an important part of the team. Whether Conte's statement is accurate or not all of his playing staff should be treated equal.

Christ man, it's not that deep

I don't think it matters. It'll probably be a little extra motivation for the player and Conte will put his arm around him and work with him to make him the best RWB he can. It's not like during training every day Conte will look at Spence with disdain and make him feel like he was not his preferred choice.

Most of y’all are going to hate me. But I don’t think this window is anything above 6/10 (especially with the others improving) unless we bring in a proper CB and AM. Bissuma is brilliant. Spence I have a lot of hope for, but no guarantees there. Richarlison, I can just about live with.
If we see Maddison come in (finally a replacement for Eriksen) and Pau Torres, I think it’s 9/10. Let’s hope they’re not finished.
