So if Inter are in even more of a financial mess can we go for Bastoni & Barella?

So you're basically saying other than the 4 signings above we've made since Conte arrived the rest of the squad isn't good enough???
No. I'm saying Son Kane Lloris are good enough, to that we've added Romero, Perisic Bissouma, Richarlison. So now 6 of our starting 11 and the bench option is comparable or better than City/Liverpool.

All the other key pieces of the suqad/starting 11 will have to really put in well above expected performances to make us anything more than huge underdogs.

Steady on, chap!

Just asking you to clarify….

huge underdogs for what? The PL title?

We drew both games against pool and won both against city last year.

Yes, the title. City/Liverpool ocassionally do lose games. We happen to have just the right playstyle to beat those two teams.

Yet, over the course of a season they're incredibly consistent. They win most games at a canter, whereas we often have absolute nightmares against the likes of Burnley, Brighton, Villa, Brentford, Palace etc. Under conte that will change, but will it change enough?

With the players we have now, I don't think it will.

Not sure I fully agree with that - as one never considers past transfers with adds on which have crystallised and result in money being paid. And if Spurs are successful we expect most add ons to be triggered.

Maybe quote the 'net spend' (which is actually a net financial commitment) as a range of guaranteed to maximum.

So in that scenario Spence is £12.5m - £20m

That way we see the minimum and maximum financial commitment

I don't like this argument but if you're calculating money spent as in isolating how much money you've spent in a window then why would you include add ons which are likely/unlikkely to get triggered later on down the line? So my example I made before; Everton signed Dele for free yet they could owe us £40m if he plays 90 matches (I think) but you wouldn't say that we sold Dele for £40m because we might not see that money...add ons are based on a series events which may or may not take place.

In fact the whole net spend argument is pointless because everyone knows clubs don't pay the whole transfer fee up front, nor does it take into account the wages committed or the signing on or agent fees for that matter, then there's things like bonuses and they you surely have to include how much money you recouped when that player is sold and how much wages saved, it's a nonsense really.

It's just one of those debates that fans like to get into that go round in circles which don't really grasp the true meaning of spend or player amortisation.

The fact you started with the bolded bit is a big indicator that you really know that your opinion here is hogwash.

We've brought in a proper CB - his name is Clement Lenglet. Having a bad time at Barcelona does not make him not a proper CB. He needs confidence and time - Kulu had a bad time at Inter...

Richarlison is a far better player than 'I can just about live with'.

Bissouma - yes, he is.

Spence - agree.

I would like to see an ACM like Maddison come in. If we can get another quality CB then great, but I can live without until next summer.

It's an 8/10 window at the moment imo.
8/10 window for me too right now.

And if Maddison gets done that goes up to - checks calculations - 11

That makes no sense. If you agree you would just be saying the same damn thing again if you elaborate. If you disagree then say fucking why. Unless the statement you agree is a yes or no answer that is obvious.

If you disagree with an argument about something more elaborate then merely disagreeing shows you are doing just for fun, too lazy to explain your side or are just being well you know.

Isn’t the idea of this place to discuss and debate? X doesn’t do that now does it?
Elaboration is a courtesy, not a requirement.

You can agree with an opinion and offer alternative reasons for why you agree with an opinion, giving said opinion further weight.

Some opinions, particularly on here, are so outright ridiculous that no explanation as to why you disagree is necessary. Likewise, some people on here are just spoiling for a fight, whilst others will not heed a word you write to disprove their opinion, no matter how many facts you provide to disprove it or how well you argue your point.

So no, hitting an X is not necessarily lazy, it's more often done to avoid wasting time trying to explain something to the unreceptive.

There are a few on here who will engage in debate, who are receptive to their opinion being disproven and, therefore, open to re-educating themselves. Unfortunately, these people are few and far between.

We will see prime Dier this year. I’m sure of it. He’s a leader and now he has great support, he’ll grow in confidence. Even city’s squad has off days, this consistency is about training and management, we have the best now, so I expect we’ll compete with the best at a high level.

Chemistry, confidence, commitment, aggression, effort, skill. We have them. We can make winning a habit with this team and manager.
I hope so, and kind of agree that he might start to play his best football but....pace and lack of passing range a la Toby isn't going to materialise.

I think Dier's ceiling is an 8/10 player, which if he gets to and maintains I'll be extremely happy with. Beside a rejuvenated baller like Lenglet (maybe) and an aggressive tackle timing expert like Romero he's in the best position he'll ever be in.

On Maddison

This is one to keep an eye on as the window progresses.

We like him, he likes us and would like to join but it's not an easy deal to do.

He's their best player IMO, only has 2 years left on his contract and they're in desperate need of money. He is likely to fetch more then Tielemans so from a financial perspective, it makes the most sense to sell him. Rodgers doesn't want to lose him but their current situation means his opinion is basically void. Now that all sounds positive but they're currently very reluctant to sit down with us and I imagine they're trying their best to sell Tielemans first. However, they need to get a move on and if nothing looks like materialising with that, then they may have no option but to sit down and negotiate with us.

I must add that we have options for the creative mid, there are a few players we are looking at and I think most on here would be very happy with bringing any of them in.

The obvious pros for Maddison are being homegrown whilst also being proven in the league.

As mentioned, this is one to keep a close eye on. Leicester are slowly being forced into a corner and whilst we have the money available, we will definitely take advantage of teams who are struggling.
