One thing that is weird to me. We got 3 right/wing backs.
Emerson is good solid right-back, BUT I think we need more in attack from that position. You are most of the time be solid defensively with 3 at the back. We aren’t desperate for another defensive player. Emerson price should be on the rise now and if we do sell one, I would rather sell him than Doherty.
But Cinte doesn’t trust Spence obviously so..

I agree. The creativity doesnt have to come from an attacking midfielder, a class right wing back to go straight into the team would probably be preferable. Problem being we already have 3 so you'd likely have to offload 1 or 2. Also outside of Hakimi who is there at that sort of level?
He sure is. I wouldn't trust Southgate to do anything too sensible.

There must be someone, outside of Hakimi, who would drastically improve what we have in that position. Surely, across the top leagues in Europe, there is a right wing back closer to the Perisic end of the scale than the Emerson end, who we could chuck 50/60m at?

I assumed mid last season that Royal would be one of the first out of the door as a RB to make way for a good RWB But virtually no top RWB's available this summer (other than £80m Hakimim not for sale by PSG) so we signed the best option available in Spence who will be eased into his role.
However Royal had a good end to the last season and start to this, and whilst being a RB rather than a RWB clearly limits us, I think Conte has the opinion that he's the best option for us atm.
I hope that Spence is starting to show what he can do over the coming months though.
