Very much the kind of faces I had in mind.... Not convinced he'll recall Dier either.

Euros was the golden opportunity and we blew it.

If he doesn't the media should tear him apart. Especially if we're going with 5 at the back. And I'm not exactly Dier's #1 fan but christ, if the likes of Mings & Coady get in over him it'll be a farce. In that central CB role he's shown he is a very competent player.

Not confidence for the WC, tbh. Feels like we don't have many players who are in good form or a settled team like we did going in to the Euros. Probably the end of the Southgate era after an early knockout, but eh .. we can dream.

I'd like to see Eze, Maddison, Toney & a few others be given bigger roles but yeah .. won't happen.

Maddison I'd agree. I don't think the other two have really done enough to be in that category. Maybe Toney as the sub target man when chasing a goal since the other backup STs seem to be out of form. Eze I think is a little overrated at this point. Talented but it's not like he's 19. He's 24 and has been good not great for a good not great CP team. Plus has been injured. England has a ton of good players. The problem is just fitting them together, in what formation, etc. The guys in form in the league vs the guys who have played well for England. Tough to have a completely new lineup every major tournament because there's no familiarity. Reece James, Kyle Walker, TAA, and maybe even Trippier are some of the most world-class players in the squad but impossible to fit them all in.

I'd have Toney as the back-up striker for sure. He offers something very different whilst being technically proficient enough to not be reverting to the Carroll type 'Plan B' ethos. Eze I really do like, I thought he was excellent pre-injury and is settling back in to that now he's returned. He'd be a bit of a wildcard option but he's press resistant & creative which is something we lack a little.

We'll fit two of the top right backs in, one as a RCB & one as a RWB. Can't see us changing from 5 at the back for the World Cup. But every England fan better hold their hands together & pray that Kane has a top tournament because I'm not sure we have nearly enough goals in the side otherwise, unless a few others hit their stride.

Alasdair Gold recent article said James unlikely, and briefly mentioned ASM.

I’m not sure how much he would cost- but can we all agree that would be sensational? He just destroyed Kyle Walker.

Jesus wept, we are officially in silly season. That’s like 7 new links to random AM/wingers in the past 2 days alone.

Getting “Levy rolling around wheelbarrows of cash around Europe” vibes lol. I’d assume 95% of these are bullshit.

Meh. Exciting on his day but that's a handful of times a season. He's overly reliant on his dribbling and when that comes off he's a nightmare for defenders, but a lot of the time he's hugely frustrating because he makes bad decisions & lacks end product.

If we're going down the road of a 'throw chaos in to the mixer' option then you might as well sign Adama for a fraction of the price/wages. Maximin is better but not so much better than he'd justify a huge fee at all.

(Oh and he's a lazy. Really bad at running off defenders & barely presses most of the time, which was partly why Howe actually dropped him last season. Conte would hate him for that.)

Wingers are hit or miss. They can have an excellent patch of games or have a good season or two and then just fade into the sunset. Rashford, Sancho etc.

I'd rather we target an AM type of player that can control the MF and play a pass. Someone that can also play out wide.

Stay here son, this lot will turn you into a fucking professor before you know it. 😂

You want Maddison but Conte doesn’t sadly. I’d agree with you that he’d be perfect, but Conte wants a more physical presence.

Zaniolo hurt his shoulder. If we were after him, that’s gone.
That’s actually really sad, it’s apparently his collarbone and he’s been carted off (looks serious). Our interest aside he’s a very talented and hard working young player who’s fought back from 2 consecutive ACL tears, a freak shoulder injury from a fall feels exceptionally unfair. Especially after Roma just lost Wijnaldum to broken leg. Have to feel for them tbh.

I’d rather Malinovskyi than all the pure winger merchant James/Traore/ASM/Gordon lot tbh. Allows us to drop a 3rd man into midfield, offers 8/10 flexibility, has a cannon of a shot and wicked free kicks. Definition of “changing the game” when he comes on. The others scream meh or overpriced to me - is ASM/Gordon truly £50m better than Lucas for example?

Zaha, Eze, Neto, Zaniolo all would be a class above the aforementioned players as wingers so would be fine with them, but all would cost silly money.
