I think we can forget the idea of a creative midfielder seeing as Conte has in his head a system of playing that players either suit or they don't.
I guess we have to trust him and the rest of the set up to get this right especially as the gooners look very slick admittedly it's only a few games in but they are looking better compared to our sluggish start.
I got halfway through this and very nearly gave you a thumbs up. But then you go and spoil it all right at the end.

We always end up doing this, buy players with ‘potential’ & invariably, it doesn’t work out. We should be buying players who will go straight into the first team & improve the starting 11, not to warm the bench, go straight out on loan or not even make it into the squad

What is the point bringing them in for WB role. We already 2 mediocre rwbs in royal and Doh with silence untried. I’d rather give spence a go than convert Adama or janes. We were supposed to upgrading the WBs not down grading. We are filling our squad with mediocre players. Fock just keep Gil and give him the chance to develop with the first team squad. Said it many a time why buy him then loan him to only then bring a replacement who is no better?

I agree with you.

I just imagine the only upside to other of them is playing wing back because both are excellent ball carriers. But don't really have the end product of our other attackers.

Ideally. We sign neither.

Fabregas only started 13 games in the league that year though and rarely started against the better clubs because he couldn't keep up most of the time. Legs were gone.

I'm sure though if we found someone half as good as Fabregas available for a decent fee, we'd have likely made the deal. The fact Eriksen was free and we passed up should tell you all you need to know.

Conte has shown he can utilise a creative midfielder but that Chelsea team would have won the league without Fabregas regardless. Kante and Matic were fantastic that year. His full backs contributed successfully and Hazard and Costa were deadly.

If our right wing back can contribute on par with Perisic, Hojbjerg and Bentancur can continue to be solid, Kulusevski can contribute like Fabregas did and Kane and Son can be deadly, I'm sure we'll be just fine.

Yeah but that's the point. He provided versatility. When the other team has prepared well for Conte's system (as the likes of Brentford & Brighton did last season) then a player who is naturally creative & not reliant on 'patterns' can be huge.

Hmmm, big call to say they'd have won the league still if you take away 17 goal contributions. Many of which were from the bench in games with tight scorelines where his creativity was the difference. They won it by what, 7 points? Healthy enough margin, much tighter if Fabregas isn't there.

Kulusevski if anything is our Hazard, not our Fabregas. On paper that should be Son but he isn't creative at all. We aren't challenging for the league with this current squad, we're headed for a battle for the top four. Which is fine & what I expected anyway .. but if people want more they'll be disappointed.

I was more thinking Kane and Son will give us the the output Costa and Hazard gave them both of which were their top 2 players.

Costa got 28 that year (20 goals and 8 assists), Kane got 26 last year (17 and 9 assists). Hazard got them 21 (16 goals and 5 asissts), Son got 30 (23 goals 7 assists) last year.

Pedro and William chipped in with a fair amount too though so we do need Richarlison to take his chance when given it.

It's why I haven't got an issue with Malinovskyi coming in as a bench player. Affordable, proven, experienced. Not quite as good as Fabregas was but can come in and provide something different to what we have.

Yes, agree to a large extent which is why I think Zaha more than any other player we have been linked with.

Unless Conte is prepared to mix and match styles we need 4 strong central midfielders and 6 players of quality up front, with one of those (Kane) being the pivot.

Where are people even seeing the James stories? I can't see anything even half reliable out there. Wouldn't get too worried.

Hercules has spoken with some … “wisdom”. Truly a wizard with the English language.

Then goes on to say the following, which confirms we are finished with business this window:

I’m not convinced that is the English language. It may be some sort of secret code that only true ITK’s will be able to understand.

We are simply not worthy..
