Let’s not compare the two.

Adama is a weird risk to take; but one that could pay off agains the odds.
James has no upside.

True. I haven't seen any serious links to Adama for a while anyway. Seems to me the club viewed him as a RWB option for Conte to work on but now we've got far too many of those to bother with him.

Seems likely to be James or nobody, really. And the only upside of James realistically being his ability to fill a spot .. but not very effectively because he's not even home grown. Trying to justify the deal is really, really hard.

I feel like it would be entirely a case of filling a space in the squad so we have depth. I doubt the club has any lofty ambitions of somebody like James or Traore having any real impact for us, but they're PL experienced bodies.
I agree with your sentiment, I'm not so sure about the club's opinion of Traore though - if we really were after him in Jan, and if Paratici really is as keen as the media keep saying (I'm not sure how they'd know...), then perhaps there really has been talk of him being a first team option on the right hand side. Whatever that means these days - we have to remember, it's not just about 'first 11', we will have loads of games this season with a very weird WC break, plus more subs allowed in PL, so those players who may not have been 'first 11' choice in the 80s, but will often play some kind of part now, will be more important than ever.

(EDIT: For example I'm sure we all have a feeling Richarlison may have a huge part to play, despite not necessarily being in people's "best 11"...)

True.

Why not just keep Gil. Send him to gym. Train him like crazy. Then play him in our domestic cup competitions and selected CL games.

James thing is plain weird, he has speed but so does Lucas and Gil and he isn’t as good as either, well certainly not Lucas. I honestly don’t get the link, I get Adama with the power and the fear factor but James just is quite frankly bizarre.

We are supposed to move on deadwood not buy it.
