Maybe it’s just me but I think Conte’s man management of Spence has been woeful, so far. Of course we don’t see behind the scenes at training every day but I don’t get why he feels the need to stress just how much he wasn’t behind signing him in every interview and he’s genuinely been doing it since day one. Gives him one run out and it’s more or less just as a way of showing him off to his old fans in an already decided game. Meanwhile Emerson is still getting allowed to offer minimal at best attacking product in some v advanced positions on the pitch, it’s baffling.

Championship team whose spending got them in to the Premier League where they won a league & FA cup & had some big European runs.

Pretty sure their fans won’t call it a poor idea, unless they collapse entirely, which they will not. They stay up this season and end up mid-table.
Their PL win was made through very shrewd signings, not by throwing around stupid money they didn't have, that's what got them to their current predicament. We've spent more than enough to win a trophy, and have been in our fair share of finals and semi-finals, at the end of the day it's a roll of the dice.

They've done pretty well since spending. Inches away from top 4 a couple of times, a trophy, some really good football. I'd rather be a Leicester fan than a fan of a similar sized club who took the league title and never tried to build on it, personally.

They took a shot & missed. They'll still survive by selling big assets they signed ala Fofana, then they can rebuild. Their issue was spending more than FFP allows which we're in zero danger of due to much higher revenue + low spending in recent years.

I’d like to see Spence given a run in some of our domestic cup games at the very least.

Gil, Sarr and Spence are all promising prospects and I’d hate to see them slowly rot away by never getting a look in.

If we didn’t get them loans, at least give them something to work towards and keep them motivated.

Things seem pretty rotten there now. They did last season too tbh....... Countless times Rodgers said there were a lot of bad attitudes there. Perhaps they just lost faith after choking for top 4 two years running and he's the problem, but Rodgers already said that 40 points is the target this season. :yikes:

Heard a funny call on TS today.... One of their lot said "the league title wasn't a big thing...... It was always the FA cup he wanted"... Weird fuckers up there, innit!

A lot of their fans think he's crap in the trf market.

I like Rodgers but seems very clear he's a short term deal. Maybe he starts pissing off players after a certain amount of time. Definitely doesn't seem to have a good record with new signings but not sure if that's just bad luck.

They'll sack him soonish & someone will come in and stabilise them. The squad is still more than good enough to be a top half side.

Worth remembering though, just how freaky their title win was........

Relegation battle > League title driven by 3 signings that cost barely a million between them (Mahrez, Kante, Vardy.)

Timeline: Doped their way out of the champo > struggled in prem > [insert fairytale freakdom] > spending seemingly beyond their means > struggling again.

Take away their title and they've still punched incredibly far above their weight. Team promoted from championship who have been a team challenging for CL spots for a couple of seasons & a EL/ECL team consistently. Also won an FA cup, which shit .. our own fans would kill for.

They're struggling a bit now but again, I expect them to stabilise and be mid-table or better going forward, which is still pretty good for them. Again, if I asked their fans if they'd swap what they've had (minus title) for just being a boring bottom half team with no ambition for years, I don't think many would bite.

You'd think so, but the right manager will be pivotal......

That backline & keeper are seriously suspect...... Tielemans is flakey..... Surley Vardy can't be leant upon much longer........ Barnes & Madison capable of carrying them?

1) Woeful? I'd bet Spain's national debt that Conte and his team have forgotten a hundred times more about player management than this forum will collectively ever know.

2) "Why he feels the need to stress just how much he wasn’t behind signing him in every interview" - it was one interview. You read it how you like, I assumed he meant it was a player that we were keeping close tabs on and had made contact with before he and his team came along. I'm almost certain that Paratici and Conte had a good look first and liked what they saw.

3) Do you seriously think that's how football professionals operate? Or could it maybe have been a calculated slowly-slowly introduction into Premier League football?

4) Baffling? It seems entirely logical to me

Conte on transfers: "I think that we did good things but I have to be honest with you because I see other squad of top team there is too much distance, still too much distance."

On Spence, he says: "Djed was an investment of the club. He's a perfect prospect for Tottenham. But for sure if we want to win we need other signings. I want to be very clear about this."

Conte plays down suggestion that Spurs have an advantage over rivals for doing their business early. "If you sign a player for £80-100m on the last day you have a big advantage because you're signing a top player." He points out that Spurs only spent on Richy & Bissouma.

not sure of the full context here, but he doesn't seem much impressed with our business.

I think that it's also about eliminating complacency and setting expectations. He said a week or two ago that it would likely take two more windows to make the changes needed. He is setting the expectations for both the supporters and the club that we are nowhere near being a finished article. It's no different than how he approaches coaching and philosophy in the team, that it can always be better and needs continued hard work.

Would he have liked more progress? Sure, but I also think he is realistic and it's part of what makes him who he is.

Was surprised (even with their difficulties) they didn't upgrade on Ward. Nowhere near good enough to be a starting goalie.

But yeah I think they'll just manage it. Enough quality/creativity in midfield and Vardy is possibly a bit past it but will score enough.

Early doors yet, but I can't see them finishing mid table, I honestly think they'll struggle this season.

Rogers has come out today saying that their target is 40 points for this season, hardly the attitude that is going to inspire confidence in the team. He's bought very poorly. The club have gone away from their past modus operandi of getting in cheap talent and getting them to perform. They've not even taken punts on potential this window, which leads me to believe they have no faith in Rogers. Judging by his comments, he's seeing this too and is angling for the sack. If they don't bin him off then I honestly can't see them improving. He'll lose the dressing room pretty quick if they also see that he's looking for an out and a payoff, Christ even Darren Bent can see this, so you can bet your life that at least a few of their players will too. Which means that all of them will in no time at all, they'll be talking about it amongst themselves almost as soon as they saw the presser.

Time will tell but, imho, they'll only improve once him and his ego are gone, but the question then is, who replaces him and what will they bring that Rogers doesn't have? Defensive stability maybe, but with others strengthening significantly around them, do they even have the necessary talent? To accumulate the points they need, they need goals. Madison might get a few, Barnes will weigh in with single figures, after that, an ageing Vardy?

I'm not seeing it in all honesty and I have them down as a relegation candidate along with Bournemouth.

I guess we'll see over the season, but if they're still in the bottom 3-5 come Christmas, I really can't see them getting out of there.

Of course.... Any fan of theirs that complains - even if they got relegated(*) - would be a twat.

(*)I think that's the main thing that seperates our aspirations & status as a club from them...... Would 1 crash and burn league title be acceptable for us when all is said and done? I'd probably 'retire' happy as I would if we'd have won the CL (fuck modern petro ball!), but the club is bigger than my personal gratification..... Relegation and a decade in the champo wouldn't be an acceptable price to pay (IMO).

As for the FA cup..... I'd love it, but I wouldn't want to fuck ourselves up for it.

I've been to 80%-ish of our home CL games.... I wouldn't trade those memories or the '16 & '17 title pushes we've had for a solitary domestic cup.

That body could give up at any moment.......

Missed 21 games (108 days) last season.

Lots more muscle issues in there over recent seasons too:
