Manager Antonio Conte

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

We were horrible last night but he’s a fantastic manager, he gets results. The fact he got top 4 with us last season with that squad and that we’ve somehow managed our best ever start to a season, tells you that. But if we want to be serious he needs to actually be backed, he wasn’t in the summer despite what a lot were proclaiming. Our first 11 hasn’t been improved on, and you look to our bench last night and there was nobody to bring on. Woolwich have gone out and backed their rookie manager 2 summers in a row with players that improve their first 11 and have jumped ahead of us.
I think the next step in the market has to be to improve the first team with at least a couple of top players in key positions – I doubt we can't do more than that if we are talking really top players.

It probably won't be in a January window though, that will have to be in the summer. Next summer is probably when Newcastle really push the boat out as well.

Well there's got to be some reason why we looked beaten in our heads before we even reached the 20 minute mark.

We weren't fired up with belief, that's for sure.

As always, we had a chance to reach out and grab something (2nd in this case) and we cocked it right up...... Again.

He's been given, Kulu, Bentancur, Spence, Richarlison, Lenglet, Perisic - he can't say that he hasn't been given reinforcements.

It’s bizarre isn’t it and has been for as long as I remember.

How much money have we spent on those players though? We didn’t improve the wingback positions sufficiently in the summer and failed to bring in a significant upgrade in defence. Plus we didn’t buy players who can unlock the door. It just wasn’t enough.

agree the results against big sides are painful, the football is painful but we've got to remain patient. and we need to have much better transfer windows.
I said it in the summer, the window was poor and not the quality was needed after all the hype of 4th and war chest money.
with us in the CL and having a cash injection we needed to be braver and put a big quality gap between ourselves and Arse, Man U

We will need to invest in a good player or two in January. I think that’s clear. An attacking midfielder and another winger/striker for starters.

Everyone’s opinion is skewered by Woolwich being top though. I expected them to be ahead of us on points now (but not top) and said before the season started that I’d fans had to hold our nerve in that respect. It will change second half of the season, especially if we reinforce. People just need to wait it out, hope we gather enough points now and get out the champions league group. Do both those things and it will be fine.

Patience is needed.
It took Liverpool almost three years to win their first trophy under Klopp, but the improvement was evident. Liverpool’s progress under Klopp was steady but real at the same time.

true and I think for certain managers that patience and time will work but not sure contes that guy. Not sure he was looking for a project. Also we’ve broken pretty much any manager, it’s almost a badge we wear with pride. Pep could arrive here and would limp out the door 3 years later holding his arse.

For those saying Conte has only been in the job 10 months, well ETH has only been in the job 10 games and the two teams were worlds apart last night.

Honestly that was embarrassing last night. Been watching Utd a fair bit this season just to enjoy the meltdown, and honestly they are tragic. So to get turned over like that…. Shameful

You don’t get 7 years with a manager like Conte though. He’s a ‘win now at all costs playing blood and guts, dog & duck football’.

He never stays anywhere long.
That's a fair point but that wasn't my argument - I am pissed off with last night and thought it was a pathetic display as much as the next man. But I don't think we will see the best of Conte's team and his automations until next season when he's had one full season with the players, 4 transfer windows in total and has been in the job 1.5 years already. Not even that much patience to be fair, but a lot for Spurs fans!

Against Woolwich we were down to 10 men and 3-1 down and last night I have no idea what people expected him to do. Moura and Gil were not going to affect that game
He's supposed to be one of the top coaches in world football. He should be watching the game analysing how the game is going notice where the opposition is weak and where they are strong. Not just hope for the best and make token subs that are now pointless with 10 minutes to go and the game gone. He's not paid big money to just bring in a system and implement it. He needs to affect games when they're being played and he's not doing that.

a couple points though, we are ahead of united by 4 points and they've lost more than us. They havent played us away, chelsea away or Woolwich away.

Also Hag spent 204 million on new players through the door this summer after sales

We ourselves spent £73 million on totally new players this summer after sales.

it's quite the gap, and it's the same old story that frustrated the fuck out of Pochettino. We dont act like a big club. We pretend we're going to buy the Armani tux and go to the opera but we end up going to JD sports and watching a rom com at the Cinema (matinee price of course)

Thing is, where will Man Ure be then? Ten Haag moved into a bigger shitshow than Conte and in less time has moulded a genuine squad attitude. Not a team reliant on keeping a clean sheet and their top scorer doing the business week in, week out.

This "Give him time" proves absolutely nothing. And even with time, the football will still be an absolute turn off.

Only 1 club has spent more than us net since the stadium opened - how long until this narrative does one?
