Manager Antonio Conte

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

There’s a pretty clear dichotomy in this group right now;

1) those that think results will catch up to performances.

2) those that think performances will catch up to results.

I’m the latter. Why? Because we’ve seen some excellent performances under Conte towards the end of the last season. Performances where we looked resilient defensively, but could transition the ball from defence to attack quickly and open teams up with ease.

That there is the huge contrast between Conte and Jose and why those comparisons make no sense. Conte knows we have to be better than this, and has shown very recently he can get this team playing good football.

Jose never wanted nor evidenced that.

This squad is not exceptional, it still contains a number of mid-table players starting in the first XI. What we will be all season is an efficient side who accumulates points without ever being great.

How many times did we all say we were a better side than Chelsea the season Conte won the league there? This is what he does. He maximises the tools he has in terms of points accumulated over a season.

Maybe some of you want more than that. Me, I’m really encouraged by the progress we’ve made in his 12 months and whilst he does things that drive me insane (as has every Spurs manager in my lifetime), I can’t think of anyone better to progress our club further going forward.
I hope you're right because theres no other choice. This has to work, otherwise Levy will bring back Poch which doesnt fill me with hope.

I thought the players were trained hard in pre season? Also everyone say we are running a lot more. We can’t be running a lot and conserving energy at the same time surely? The two are mutually exclusive, no?
And this is why stats such as these reported are total garbage without context.

Run the furthest, how dose this actually translate into a football match? Are these jogs or sprints? What is the intensity? Are the KM's spread across the entire team equally or have we sent out 1,2,3(???) players to run like dervishes by pressing the oppo whilst everyone sits back?? Is this running with the ball or without it?

You can work the players mega hard in pre-season to give them a base level of fitness, then dial it back once the season starts.

I've had two mates that we professional Tri-Athletes, their taring was all meticulously worked out on spreadsheets for the entire year, broken down to every day of the week, it was tailored around the dates of the competition. It's very, very complicated and turns them into utter boring wankers to be around. But this is the nature of elite professional sports.

I have no idea how this translates into a whole team, I can only guess that the players might not be aware of the program they are actually on, they just do what they are told. Again, the actual specifics day to day are 100% managed as Poch (and it's well documented that it's been done with other managers) did with us, all the training he did was focused on us peaking in the Christmas and New Year. We smashed teams in this period, whilst also starting slowly and finishing weakly (there was always much criticism of his style of football caused his teams to fall away at the end of seasons, the same too was directed at Bielsa teams).

Are we geared to run at a steady competitive pace throughout the entire season, or peak in Christmas/New Year (like Poch) or are we geared to finish on a tsunami of high-pressing football and blow teams out of the water during the run-in??? Or Conte doesn't believe in this. The truth is no one knows other than a key group at the club.

I dont read too deeply into running stats. As long as you're not bottom or close to it, there isnt really much you can draw from it.

Running the most could also mean you're chasing the ball more often meaning you're more tired when you finally get the ball and cant do anything with it.

When? In the first 10 minutes? Cause after that they battered us
I wouldn't call shooting wild shots from the edge of the box and having half of them blocked a "battering" the second half they started creating after the lucky goal.

First half - Rashford's chance at 21' was the first clean look they had. That was it for the first half, everything else was a hopeful shot or a blocked shot. Despite being under pressure, I was not worried about giving up a goal until they had the deflected shot.

Lmao you’re deluded or you watched a different game. If it wasn’t for Lloris we would’ve been 2-0 down at HT...

Graham Potter making a change to the midfield after 35 minutes realising that it wasn’t working against Manure.

Just sayin’.
Yes saw that someone who acts quick. Two managers who we should have gone for after Jose but ducked up and got Nuno. I don’t like manhue but credit to them and ETH. His taken the gane to chavs. Plus I like that he dropped Fred who was one of their norms on Wednesday for ericksen. Just shows his instinct is to be creative even though Fred played well. Would conte do that? He’d gladly bring in royal for anyone. Basically ETH has 5 attacking players.and only Casemiro holding. Plus his FBs push up almost like WBs. So why is it that we have to have 3 CBs plus 2/3 defensive CMs just to push on our WBs? Which is made worse when is normally royal. That almost sounds like a Pulis setup. If teams who play a back 4 can push their FBs high up and still defend why can’t we do that as well. Our WBs get forward prbly sane as most teams who play a 4 may be less sometimes as we are often sitting on our 18 yard line. Whole philosophy seems wrong to me especially when we don’t have the necessary quality in those positions.

However I’d settle for a 0-0 in this match😀
But makes you wonder what we could have been like now with one of these two managers being charge from summer 21?
