Too often negative football is code for ineffective. If we can't break a press or break a team down, that may be poor coaching but it is not a matter of "positivity". I don't think there is a cat in hell's chance of coaching that team yesterday to be a possession based team with a high line and a high press. But I think it's Poch next season now.

The reality is we don't know until the season is over and even then it's probably still speculation as this type of data, let alone conversation is never given out by Clubs (hence we are stuck with most KM's etc).
When journalists tried to engage Poch in the subject he was very defensive, probably because it was only brought up to emphasize a negative ("Poch teams drop off physically like Bielsa teams" was usually how the convo began).
The only time I ever remember such dialogue is with Guardiola when he was at Barca, for 2 or 3 seasons he specifically talked with the press about building fitness across a season - but my sense is when you have a squad the caliber he enjoyed and the fact that there is just one team to really threaten you in the league it becomes a hell of a lot easier to plan for by comparison with the PL with 6 or 7 teams scrapping for similar positions and they are spread evenly throughout the season.
I think the difference to last season was all to do with the team learning and implementing his patterns, more than just fitness. Again, without any data or even dialog from him I'm sure fitness played a part as we got to the business end of the season, our performances were easily our best and probably a culmination of the two factors. The fact that Gian Piero Ventrone was so ingrained in this squad I can only assume his work impacted the team a lot with the work they did with him, along with the team becoming more aware of the tactical aspects of Conte's game is why we looked much, much improved. Perhaps also the teams we played against were gassed and were struggling for their fitness, that was certainly the case with Woolwich who not only looked to be running on fumes their performances confirmed this too.

I agree with you in the sense that if we look at the goals yesterday - these were bad individual errors.
Lloris decisions in first goal situation were outrageous really. What was he expecting there ?!?!
Also the 2nd goal is friendly shared with Lloris-Sess-Lenglet... shares of 30-30-40%. Poor first pass AND letting ball go in from under you, awful control and decision by fullback... but then total lack of anticipation, reaction and pace by Lenglet ?!?
I felt that we actually started the game well. And I liked how trio of Bissouma-Skipp-Bentancur moved. Specially Skippy. He also opened and ran upfield to be a distraction and additional body upfront to make Newcastle defenders life harder.
But then those two stupid goals cost us, and we were put in difficult position. With very little ways to change things around.
At the same time - I still feels that he very much expects unrealistic things from some of his players. We could climb out of 2-goal-deficit, but not when you expect for Sanchez-Dier-Royal-Sess to play out from the back. Nor when you expect Sess and Royal to create of finish any chances. But this seems to be constant expectation from him. Expectation that will never be fulfilled....
Everything he says here is correct. Patience required. He hasn’t even been with us a year yet.
That would mean starting next season with 5 new signings who would all improve the first team. That sounds about right.
I fully agree but I can see how some would not buy into this when his future is still up in the air.

He gets that the team doesn't have the mentality to win away from home against big teams because of the type of players we buy, we dont buy players from big big clubs who are used to massive pressure (explains why bentancur and kulu are so good) and these non experienced players will need to grow
talks of improving the squad of course, but knows there is a difference of who we can get as we arent the same level as the 'monsters' but we need to not make mistakes in the transfer market

I think the end-of-the-season stuff with Poch was highly exaggerated IMO, the only baseline for complaint was because it happened to Bielsa teams and he was always tagged with him, although apart from playing for him when he was a kid, the links were/are really tenuous other then they both favored playing a high-pressing game.
But overall what is evidenced is we started slowly each season (this improved slightly each season until his last) but were always superb in the middle part of the season. (but there is always context with football our 16/17 season and 17/18 season as we played away from home at Wembley, we lost to Conte's Chavs having totally dominated them all game and they had 2 fucking shots!!! hahaha sounds familiar, same with Burnley the next game when it was a 0-0 and we had close to 30 shots, so we were good, played well but the teams took points from us. Ironically both Dyche and Conte were said to have given masterclasses against us, Poch got slated. Now the tables are revised, and Tottenham is still getting slatted!!!)

Conte is a top manager , no doubting that. I'd be a bit more prepared to be patient and take the rough with the smooth right now if it felt like his heart was truly set on staying here for 2 to 3 years and seeing this through

Q. The club signed 4/5 players in the summer TW. The PL is competition of 20 clubs. All rivals made signings and improved. How much progress have we made on the pitch relative to other clubs like mancity, liverpool, woolwich, newcastle, manu and cheski? You give me a percentage or a figure from 0 to 10.
He's accountable to Lewis.... BUT Levy is Lewis's 'hands' and also his brains/advisor on everything related to running the club.
Nothing changes at the very top unless the club is sold.
According to Alisdair Gold the contract extension is in Levy's hands not Conte's.
The question for Levy is are we playing the free flowing football that he said we'd get after sacking Jose?
