Manager Antonio Conte

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Conte's peak teams play at least acceptable football to watch, deliver wins on a regular basis, sometimes it can be even a fun watch battering the opponents with even 5 or 6 goals scored on a good day.

However his Spurs team is not that currently. He needs to find a regular 11 that will be able to deliver results and pick subs that will do the job for the rest of the games and give rest to the starting players.

If he figures this out soon top 4 should be achieved and even if he leaves at the end of the season the next manager will have a solid base to work with and a Champions
League football.

I felt for a while that something annoys me about Conte...
And today I might have got closer to understanding what it is -

He seems to spin responsibility to external factors and through that makes it seem like the flaw or error was not on us. And there are many examples -
- Sporting game VAR situation - how can one justifiably blame ONLY referee when we play like shit full first half of the game ?!?
- I saw somewhere that he pointed out Kane and Son to being tired of all this workload - but whenever Richie and Kulu were fit, he only used ONCE chance to rest either of them. Literally he is complaining about his own (lack) of actions.
- about yesterday game he said to Sky Sports - "I speak about responsibility, to make important decisions on the pitch and not an easy pass"... and at the same time he himself drills in routine passing patterns to players like Bissouma who looks to be extremely afraid to do anything that does not fit into this pattern / what is expected of him. Also I still to this day find it weird that we never went for a CM whose strenght it would be to hold the ball and have good creative passing in his locker. Cause once more - PEH and Benta have done well, they fight and work and hussle well. But they have their significant limitations. Really happy to see Benta score (and also PEH assisting) vs Bournemouth, but without Kulu in the team, ball moves too slowly. Fact that from past 5 games and 450 minutes we have scored two goals from open play proves it.

And this is not related to my realization but it was mentioned in another thread - actually he/we/squad/coaches have failed to really integrate our new purchases...
- Bissouma - was brilliant EPL midfielder in Brighton. Up to now he has been bit part player looking confused as hell
- Perisic - brilliant, brilliant crosser of the ball. Started brightly for us, but overall game has taken step back.
- Richie - you can see he started off brightly and he wanted to do well, but he never have been on the same wavelenght than other attackers. His performances before injury also dropped off badly
- Lenglet - has played and is good passer, but made two bad mistakes in two last starts
- Spence - does not even get slightest of chances

It cannot be that they all are not getting Contes instructions.... specially Perisic who has previously played with him already...

Fuck it, I give up.
Every game or not every game- nothing changes fact that their example was from last game, ours was from last season.

Impossible to argue with someone who do not understand so very basic things.
so... fuck it. Let's leave it there.

I reiterate my point - our build up play is crap, we cant score from open play and it bugs me.
Case closed. Have a good day.

That wasn't your point originally, or if it was you never stated it.
If I have that wrong quote your original post where you did say that.
Not one from 3 or 4 posts into the discussion.

I'll reiterate my point;

You tried saying that Chelsea play better football than us based on one clip of 20 seconds.
Every single fucking team in the entire league can post such a clip.

It's a bollocks assertion.
When this was pointed out, you moved the goal posts more than once.

Case closed

Isnt xG a little misleading? If a team is expected to get 4 goals and get 2, doesnt that mean they were more threatening than the "clinical" who got 2 out of 2?
Yes that’s the point. Taking xG as gospel assumes all players finish at roughly the same level which is not true. The blue is good… meaning we created higher quality chances than we gave up.

I use xG a lot but everyone that uses it has to acknowledge it’s flaws. What xG people sometimes ignore is that finishing and goalkeeping are part of the game and not just controlling the play.

But over long periods of time, finishing and goalkeeping far above the xG is almost never sustainable.

Yeah that's right, it shouldn't be used as the definitive but it's a good way to measure how a team is doing over a long period, if you're creating chances and getting into good position to score you're generally doing something right hence posting high xG over time - it should reward itself, same for if you keep restricting opponents to low quality chances hence posting low xG, the chances are your opponents will find it difficult to score in your net.

The stats kinda speak for themselves, it's no co-incidence that Under Conte we're winning more xG battles hence our PPG increasing and us winning more matches, massive contrast to Nuno for example.
