The defence will always hold this team back - not only are there too many individual errors there, there also isn't enough ability on the ball - each issue compounds the other as we can't progress the ball forwards and we have to sit our midfield/wingbacks deeper than we otherwise would.

Terrible again today, pointing his finger of blame at everyone when in truth he should have stuffed it up is own big fat slow ass.
We don't have good defenders, hence the need to play compact as a team.
For the players we have we're doing pretty well.
I rate Conte higher.
People forget how poor we were the two seasons before Conte.
Conte is a very good coach but in fairness Nuno & modern day Jose are two bottom of the barrel, useless coaches, so that might have distorted things.
I actually don't think it's Conte that's made the biggest difference per se, but more the arrival of Bentancur and Kulu that was the game changer. We've looked like shit under Conte when either Bentancur or Kulu are out.
Jose didn’t move with the times, but let’s not exaggerate how bad he was. Win the title with Chelsea a few seasons before taking over as spurs manager.
Conte is a world class coach who some flaws.
He’s helped Kulu/ Bentancur find form in a way Allegri and many juventus managers couldn’t.
That was his last hurrah. The United job broke him fully as a manager at the top level, by the time he arrived at us he had nothing to offer.
But that is the problem though, for being compact, should negate that, but if anything the team looks worse.

Could not care less that he won that ridiculous 'trophy' .. the best team they beat to win it was fucking Leicester.
Man sits 7th & finished 6th last season, despite managing one of the top spending teams in Italy both seasons, bringing in the likes of Dybala. He's so finished at the top level, parading around 3rd rate European trophies is all he's got left.
Perhaps so, but both United and us had mediocre squads when he took over.
Regardless I think many are being too negative on Conte here. He’s 3rd best manager in the world imo.
Done that for a few seasons, targets the low hanging fruit to keep his trophy count up. Think he was 8th when sacked by Utd, 7th when sacked by us and as you say 6th last season and 7th now. Thats where is as a manager. No better than Fonseca at Roma despite spending £200m
