Transfers January 2023 Transfer Thread. The Big One

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

So what this tells me is that we're £45m behind 4th placed Liverpool and as close to 12th placed Palace as we are to Liverpool.

We're 5th, but we're miles behind 4th. It's like saying we just missed out on the CL by finishing 5th, but being 35 points off.

I bet less than Jesus.
That's not to say I'd rather we signed Jesus. It's just to point out it's the package and it's been a trend for as long as ENIC have been around. The outlier, the only one I can really think of, is Ndombele. And that went SO badly I can see ENIC never signing a player on big wages ever again.

Honestly, why would that matter.... Richy presumably thought it was a fair wage?

We're also miles behind 4th in revenue

I think you're happy.

I think your season starts thinking "I'll be ok watching Spurs, as long as we don't go down that's a really good season, Europe would be a bonus but as long as we make some money and don't go down, that's what matters"

I actually think you'd be mortified if Spurs threw the dice, borrowed some money and really tried to bridge the gap.

The fact is, the only way we bridge that gap is on the pitch. Win more, make more, win more again, make more again. Without that, we're never going anywhere and, at that point, not much point being a fan, paying obscene prices and having to take flack from everywhere.

It's odd..... Universally, we all want the club to punch above their weight; but seemingly some are incapable of seeing it in such vivid terms; that this is what's indeed required for us to routinely finish top 4... Let alone win the poxy English-Premier-Petro-League.

Logically; a head-to-head cheque-book battle only gets us par.

You're just being silly now.

Just because I don't shout "Spend more money" doesn't mean I'm happy, only realistic.

Realistic is beaten though.
Are we beaten as fans? Do we accept that Spurs will rarely ever win anything, if at all? Do we accept that even when there is a glimmer of success, it will absolutely not be built upon? do we accept that there is currently more chance of a smaller team actually tasting glory than us?
At this rate I would expect even a shit show like Spam to win something before us. There's no reason not to, Portsmouth, Wigan, Leicester (twice) all have.

No doubt the current position of Portsmouth and Wigan will be thrown at me, but there is no link between those teams winning the FA Cup and now being in the lower leagues. They are smaller clubs that are generally in the lower leagues.

Interesting that with Liverpool getting tonked last night, there is literally no talk about Spurs in the media today. I bet Levy loves that.

I'm not going to mention Portsmouth, Wigan or Leeds (even though I just did😂)

What I will mention is City, Utd, Chelsea, Liverpool and now Newcastle.

All if which have, or will have, vastly bigger revenue than us and can therefore spend more.
Whether that's through just being bigger or artificially inflated is beside the point.

If you think we can compete with these clubs in transfers and therefore trophies you're going to be very disappointed.

Maybe if we're bought by an oil state we will, but until then we're fucked.

I believe we can grow, and in time, if we do it properly, we can compete. I believe any club can grow organically both on and off the pitch with careful, intelligent and occasional risky management.
We have failed to do it for 20 years though. It's all been about off the pitch security and gambles on future prospects. Despite the hires of Mourinho and Conte, the overall plan has (there is one) always been to sign young cheap players with potential in a gamble 1 in 5 pays off. They either elevate the team or sell for a profit. Rinse and repeat.
I strongly believe the only reason we got Mourinho and now Conte was because there is a belief the players are good enough to challenge and they wanted season tickets renewed.
2 serial winners are failing with us. 1 left and immediately resumed his winning ways. The other will leave and continue to win elsewhere and we, we'll still be Spurs.

You don't have to defend me, he's been on my ignore list since day dot.
Not defending you mate.

Only telling it like it is .
I can have a decent respectful debate with you, Deuterz Deuterz along with a few more.

Others throw their toys out of their pram, call people cucks, and put them on ignore.
Oh well, ne'mind eh.

You think we're the same shit fest on the pitch as when we were run by Sugar?????

Not getting top 4 these days is portrayed as a failure..... How the hell are such expectations not a result of growth????

We'd not been top 4 since the 80s, ffs!

As soon as some one starts throwing foul mouthed abuse, personal insults or rabid insanity at me they go on ignore.
Occasionally I click the "show ignore" tab to see if they're still doing it and mainly they are.

You'd think everyone supporting the same team and being on a forum for that team would result in people being able to talk to each other with a level of respect but hell nah.

So basically you’d like spurs to throw money around and risk a massive fallout because you don’t have to bear any responsibility for the fallout.
