Ok then.

Let’s not overpay as it’s a risk. Fair enough.

Instead, let’s just risk a key position in the team, our manager’s position at the club, our final league position and CL qualification.
That was the point of my Chelsea examples in the post you quoted.

Chelsea have a net spend of over 300m this season and find themselves in 10th. Spending big won’t guarantee success on the timescale you want. The proof is staring at you.

We need to be making longer term decisions before dropping 45m (beyond 6 months).

Next season we’re almost certainly playing a back 4. Is Porro worth it in a back 4? Or are there concerns about him defensively?

Fans want spending but it has to be the right spending. Historically we haven’t always got that right but I trust Paratici given his track record to do a good job.

what happened to that estonian lad that was supposed to be mustard cb in the academy
Maksim Paskotsi.
Been out with a heart condition/problem from the start of this season which has now been addressed. He appeared in the friendlies after world cup and made his first start of the PL2 (u21s) season in our most recent game, which incidentally was our u21s first win since April. Our u21 team don't have any natural fullbacks so he often ends up playing RB or LB

It's a report.

So were Woolwich wrong in seeking to establish a valuation for Mudryk?

There is and has to be a balance.

If not we could have spent 75 million on Ndombele, with all the accusations that would have followed.

We act as though this Sporting Lisbon player will transform us or that we should satisfy Conte's needs regardless of cost.

Fcuking joke.
Well, they didn't get their player, so arguably yes...

But regardless, this has long been an issue for us, it's not a coincidence that we are always referred to as the team to watch on deadline day, we're experts at dragging this shit out endlessly, and for every example that you can find of another club negotiating, there are far more cases of us doing it and then not even getting it over the line in the end...

There has to be a reason for it and no longer can we just accept it as club poverty, you can see the likes of Leeds and Bournemouth making signings for £20, £30m+, with CL football, TV money, stadium revenue, there is absolutely no excuse for us to be sat here with on no signings despite glaring issues with the squad.

I would have taken them before going to Palace as punts, unless their contracts are near expiry then I would think the amount of money Palace would want for them would put them out of the range of being described as punts though.

Fair point......

Olise 2026.
Eze 2025 >>> That 2 year phase is when players start to become viable again.

......It's not like CP have added any value; they still merely 'promising talents'.

Think they them for ~£10m each didn't they? Purely by virtue of being a HG talent playing regularly for a Prem team they would be attracting interest at ~£25m you reckon?

Possibly still worth it, but too expensive to be a punt. Baffled that we didn't go for them at the time they joined Palace though.

"Punt" as in a stab at getting them; not the other sense of the word.

25m doesn't seem beyond what you'd pay for a european prospect tbh and these lads are EPL-'baptised' and HG. (for ref: Gil cost us that much.... Pepe cost 70m.)

Rightfully; these lads (and Bowen) opted for game-time > glamour for their first EPL move. More power to them. (We were suggested to have shown interest in both Eze & Bowen,)

Palace seem the sort of club that may take someone in part ex. Perhaps Royal, Dier, Winks or someone?

The assurances you are looking for do not exist in football.

And certainly not in the price range we are looking at.
