What talented young players? Who has gone on to prove us wrong? Walker-Peters the only possibility. Edwards was talented but lazy and the academy chiefs didnt want him rewarded. He played Winks, he played Skipp Carter-Vickers and Onomah not good enough. You cant magic up talent that isnt there.

Which ever way you look at it, we certainly didn’t maximise those resources either in the footballing sense or the financial sense. If we managed the development of the football side with those three players better, we would have also reaped better financial rewards than the 20m those three gave us.

You fail to develop youngsters correctly and they're going to have a hard time. Imagine if we actually loaned KWP our at a younger age instead of wasting crucial development years having him train with our first team.

Off the back of absolute horrendous youth development it's a testament to their ability that KWP is a consistent Prem player and Edwards and Madueke went on to play Champions League football.

Now imagine if they were actually developed properly. Given game time and proper loans to see how they can hope?

Who knows.

Do you think Chelsea just leave their best youth drowning playing youth football? Or do they try and get them to play competitive men's football as young as possible?

Luckily, we're doing right by Dane. Let's not fail Devine too.

"what talented young players" is such a lazy argument. If they didn't live up to their talent, then we've failed them. We haven't developed them properly. We've not provided the tools needed to be a success at this club or elsewhere.
Ok. Take Troy Parrott. 3 years ago there were calls for him to start when we had that striker crisis under Mourinho. He's had loans and 3 years on he's still nowhere near. I hope he has a good career, he obviously has some ability but i dont think it will be top half prem. And you'd say he was one of our better prospects of the last 4 years . I think it says more about our youth scouting over the last few years than anything. You mention Chelsea, the difference is they pay their youth players big money so attract the best. We decided against doing that rightly or wrongly to keep their hunger. I wish Chelseas version wasnt more successful because its to the detriment of the game but likes most things in life you get what you pay for.

They were also given a transfer ban a couple of years ago as punishment for their youth recruitment processes. Sadly; their ban was reduced on appeal and they still got to keep all the players they breached the rules over.

Moral of this story: Cheats prosper.

As for Troy; you said so yourself.... That was in a "crisis".... We had Kane, Son, Bergwijn & Lamela all missing. Desperate times call for desperate measures.

But now we know he's no where near. But loaning Parrot out is a whole lot better than what we were doing. No loans, taking out of U21 games and just training with the first team. So these players were getting ZERO game time for over a year.

Absolute wank development. Again, it's a testament to Walker Peters that, despite how awfully he was treated, he's made a decent career and got an England cap out of it.

Just wonder how good he may have been if he actually played mens football at the age of 17 or 18 as opposed to not playing a lick of competitive men's football consistently until the age of 22.

If its purely not loaning young players then we're in agreement. It was always stupid and always my biggest bugbear with Poch. If he does come back he needs to be told thats still going to happen. The biggest mistake with Walker-Peters was buying Aurier. KWP would have been perfectly capable back up to Trippier in 17/18.
