This is so unbelievably tedious, even for you.

I don't want anything in particular.... But if you're gonna contradict me over what was a very clear and catagoric point me then don't move the goalposts like you have been trying to do since your very 1st reply.

My "little criteria"?

.......Better still; don't bother.

Right. Any player that can be named did not in fact move to Spurs and improve the team therefore you can't prove they could have moved to Spurs and improved the team.

Christ almighty what a bore

No; just players that would have been deemed plausible upgrades on our best XI at the time.

Kante? LOL

You two are a right pair........

Depends on the coach.

Lloris
Dier - Fazio - Vert - Rose
Bentaleb - Mason
Lamela - Eriksen - Chadli
Kane
Finished 5th and 6 points off 4th. Somehow.
Still a very good core with Lloris, Vert, Eriksen, Kane. Rose better than any fullback we currently have and Dier was actually a pretty useful player when he first joined and could move.

Bentaleb and Mason were workman like and brought energy. Chadli and Lamela chipped in with their fair share. Faz obviously shit

Compare that to the current team suggested with two wingbacks at fullback, no creativity despite the midfield 3 and no goals in it.

I won't. I think everyone can see that its a silly statement, and that there's not a fucking chance in hell that we as a Champions League football club could have been incapable of signing ANYBODY who upgraded us over the period of time where we were spending nothing or worse, making money.

I knew what the tedious response would be, hence why I didn't originally put names. There will be an excuse for every single player that existed. And you're gonna stick to the best XI we had in the period & ignore the years where we had a weaker XI, still didn't upgrade, and still spent shit all.

Surprised people think we won't bring in anybody because we haven't done so yet.. it's not the right way to do things, but it's the way we do things. I expect we'll make a deal or two in the next few weeks.
I have expected all along that we eventually get Porro done and another attacker (seems like Zainolo is the one) but the Paratici shit has thrown a spanner in the works.

Sadly I don't think we will get the CB or GK upgrades we desperately need.

In hindsight, sure.

But Rose was pretty average that season. Better than what we have, yes. But if I showed you that team prior to the 14/15 season kicking off, you'd have told me we'd struggle to crack the top half too.

We had Lloris in goal, who at the time to his credit was one of the best in the league. But Rose got given a new contract that summer and the fans hated that decision so much and he got so much abuse from it that he deleted his social media. Fazio was a disaster. Walker had an injury ravaged season we had Eric fucking Dier playing right back for most of it. Mason and Bentaleb wouldn't get into our current team. Kane was unproven quantity still and wasn't even first choice ahead of Adebayor at the start of it and neither Chadli or Lamela are better than Kulusevski.

Eriksen and Vertonghen were the only ones we knew had proven quality (besides Lloris) going into that season and even then it didn't stop our fans from being skeptical on Vertonghen because of his "attitude" in the second half of the prior season.

With the right coach however, that team achieved much more than it should have done. 6 points off the Champions League places and a domestic cup final... Few additions to that in the following summer (Alderweireld and Son) and we were starting to build something good. That line-up of our future that was posted is not a bad team at all and with the right coach, could be on it's way in the same vein. It has technique, energy, youth and would be an exciting start to building something good.

I'm gonna "stick to the best XI" cos that's all that was being spoken about all along...... Regardless of your desire to move the goalposts about and make it about something else.

Have I once said we couldn't improve the squad, spent our money better or succession planned better?

NO.

You call me tedious (trust me; it's fucking dull from my end!), but if all you want to do is shoehorn your grumble in despite what was being talked about; you don't need to quote me and drag me into the process...... Just have a stand-alone rant and see if anyone bites.

Sure there's some decent young players in there but still a woeful lack of creativity and goals.

For an established "Big 6" club it would be a very uninspiring XI to go into a season with.

Assuming Conte goes and the next manager plays 4231 I think we can only hang our hats on a few (I'm still not sold on Rich being our leading man tbh):

GK
RB --- Romero - CB --- LB
Bissouma - Bentancur
Kulu ---- CAM ---- LW
Rich
GK: New starter needed
RB: We need better than a wingback who has 1 good season in the Championship (hopefully Porro)
CB: Partner for Romero
LB: Udogie very young and an unknown quantity in England. Sess/Perisic should be moved on
CAM: Desperately need creativity
LW: Gil is not good enough to be our Son replacement

A lot of work to be done.

Is it that worse than last season?

I am pretty sure by this time we were linked with a player who barely got games at Fiorentina. At least, with Porro we are linked with someone relatively decent.
If you look at the transfers in isolation probably not. But if you combine it with the potential investment/sale, paratici situation, Conte not committing to a new contract, Kane seemingly not engaging with contract extension talks, Lloris and Son’s form having fallen of a cliff, it does all start painting a very negative picture.

It’s just all the chickens coming home to roost really.

I don't mind your line-up either.

Think the point was to use what we've got though under a progressive manager using our best young players mixed in so it's not a full rebuild in one summer. Like in 14/15 when we got by using youth in Mason and Bentaleb (despite not being good enough long term) and using what we had in the likes of Chadli and Lamela to get by until we could realistically improve with the right personnel.

Udogie in at left back for me. Something special in that kid, he's fearless. The right sort of youth this team needs. Keep Perisic to be back up to him for rotation and to play in the early round cup games as well as being able to bring on to close out games or to also use as offensive depth. Get Gusto in to play RB.

I wish we'd look at Kudus from Ajax.

Def a lot of work to be done if we're to rip it all up and start again and yes, not entirely wise to put unconditional stock in a couple of relatively 'green' FB/WBs; but I think all the point needs to be is that there's a good launchpad there to change the style, energy etc. and head off in a different direction if that's what's coming.
