Wow that is damning and proves what so many people have been saying for so long about the way we operate.. it IS different!

Ridiculous.
It doesn’t. For one we now have Paratici and the way he operates is not the same as the way predecessors might operate.

Also, we have no idea where Trossard was in our priorities. Perhaps his falling out with De Zerbi made us believe a too good to turn down deal was on the table but that we weren’t really that interested and weren’t willing to spend more than 20m on an underwhelming option.

There are lots of facts we don’t know about this so we can’t say it proves anything.

Or he isn’t our first choice. The whinge fest and fixation with Levy on here is hilarious. Talk about living rent free. Most seem more focused on Levy than players, manager, or manager of football.

Trossard will be appointed an emblem of this trf window even though a large % turned their noses up.

............Suddenly he's good enough for the scum and the revision begins.

Truth is if we'd have blown 28m on him the reaction would have been "Booo... I wanted X player; not him.. What a waste..... He's only got a 1 in 5 strike-rate and is too old to get any better".

As long as we keep hold of Royal , this window will have been a success .

Melters gonna melt

Yes it does - especially combined with the Porro negotiations. Other clubs around us are simply paying what is necessary if they want a player, we negotiate, delay, ponder and lose out. Really shameful for a club in our current predicament who are the 9th richest in the world to operate like this. Woolwich are top and cruising yet simply went and got Trossard, and were willing to straight up pay for Mudryk too.

We should've activated Porro's clause on day 1, had him in within a week.

The only reason we were interested in Trossard was when we thought we could get him on the cheap. As soon as it became apparent hed be double what we offered, that was that. Thats us in a nutshell. Yet we shat £60M on Richarlison when no one else was in for him. The mind boggles
Wasn't £60m, was £50m plus £10m in add-ons we'll likely never activate because they will be about success, also spread over the 5 year contract.

My problem is still we opened with a ridiculously low opening offer which they must have known would be rejected and then didn't follow up. If we really are fishing in the £12m pool then proven PL players, even midtable ones, don't come that cheap.

I don't care if we did or didn't sign that specific player in the end, but it just seems to have been submitting an offer for the sake of looking busy.

Or we really can only stretch to £12m but we know that's not true.

Whether WE wanted him or not isn't the point. The club did but were telling Brighton to 'wait' and then another club (in a similar financial situation to us but in a much better sporting situation) simply went in, slapped the money on the table and now he's in a Woolwich shirt.

We don't behave like a big club. We only wanted Trossard if he was going to be a total bargain basement option. If we only want a player on the cheap then don't bother at all. Meanwhile our London rivals battle over Mudryk & then the one who doesn't get him simply pays up for Trossard, because they realise that supporting the manager is more important than looking after the pennies.

Suddenly feels like the (im)perfect storm.... As above; there's so much uncertainty atm.....

- Conte contract?
- Fab?
- Investment?

That's before all the myriad of typical stuff that we can be subject to.
I can melt as much as the next man, but this situation feels fundamentally different.

The Zaniolo nonsense is a giveaway; we’re looking for an obligation to buy based on CL qualification when it feels like the club has given up on getting there. Almost as if we don’t want the player and are doing some short term sleight of hand to pretend we’re supporting a manager.

I think everyone knows Conte is off and, in all likelihood, Kane in the Summer. And we’re just treading water.

Even ENIC aren’t that shit.

I think there will be an announcement in February about the club.

So, your point is some fans are fickle? Of course they are. It's not new and it's not unique to Spurs.

The point is either Trossard was a target (whether we wanted him or not) and they dithered whilst he went to a rival club.

Why open with a high offer for a player with not much left on his contract and who's already fallen out with his manager?

I don't care if we did or didn't sign that specific player in the end, but it just seems to have been submitting an offer for the sake of looking busy.

Nah; I don't buy the 'sake of looking busy' shit..... If the club don't wanna sign anyone; they just won't.

Evidently they've got enough on their plate atm; without playing pretend.

Or we really can only stretch to £12m but we know that's not true.

...Yeh, indeed; that's not true.

Still, if you've ring-fenced an amount of money for players; why not try and make the most of it?

Trossard would have been a decent squad option, I don't think many believe he was Son's long-term replacement.

I don't think 28m is good value given his level, age and situation with Brighton but that's not the point.

The point is that his agent's comments on Spurs' behaviour is yet more evidence of how small time we act in the transfer market.

ENIC done well to get us in to the "top 6" mix but now they have reached their ceiling and this kind of behaviour exemplifies that.

Perhaps, like the fans, the club's interest was only mild at best?

.......Isn't the whole 'many options' thing Paratici's signature method anyway?

Yeah I think Levy will try to make any signings as low-risk as possible (hence cut price deal for Porro and loan for Zainolo) as he doesn't want to back Conte.

At the same time he still needs to be seen to be supporting his manager and improving the squad to prevent fan riot.

I'm not saying open with a high offer, but realistic. £12m isn't realistic, and the fact we didn't come back in after with a more reasonable offer suggests we as a club weren't really interested.

If I see a flat for sale around here for £450k I don't open with a £200k offer, the seller wouldn't even bother replying. It's just wasting everyone's time.

I thought so too, fwiw.

I don't think many believe he was Son's long-term replacement.

The bloke I responded to though so; hence my reply.

There's a lot going on right now that I'm not comfortable with...... The Trossard thign is pretty low-ranking on my radar however.

We won't sign a better LW though. If Trossard was just another LW option and we were moving on to some Gucci tier options then great. But we need someone to sit Son on the bench regularly & I'm really not keen on Richarlison on the wing.

We'll just sign nobody instead. Probably Zaniolo who plays off the right anyway and isn't what we really need, only because he's cheap, Roma want rid and we can do loan with option to buy. This isn't the way to operate if you want to win trophies or be a stable, successful team.

It's not like the bloke was deemed a high value player; you gotta open a negotiation somewere..... If it's too low the parent club will soon tell you and then you re-evalate.

Fact is the agent said about us delaying being an issue.... Perhaps if we'd have moved fast we'd have got a better deal than the scum did..... We'll never know.

If I see a flat for sale around here for £450k I don't open with a £200k offer, the seller wouldn't even bother replying. It's just wasting everyone's time.

True, but if you don't know how much it's worth and there's no advertised pricetag.... Then you register your interest and have a chat.....

Seems like that's as far as thins went; only we tried to keep his agent on ice..... Again; this is Fab's modus operandi IIRC.
