Manager Antonio Conte

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Agreed.

Look at this example from no. 1 obsessive Chris Cowlin, takes a short section from a press conference, blows up a headline suggesting Conte is giving the club stick and posts it online so people will click on it and he'll get paid through youtube....and he's supposed to be a Spurs fan...

Then add in the aggregators who only want to spread bad news as it gets more clicks and you have negativity across the online fanbase, who the media focus on. I’m glad actually that this week they have noted the away fans as a barometer of the ill feeling towards the owners and the love towards Conte. It’s a much more balanced approach.

Tottenham man is now going to ask to leave at the end of the season

Di Marzio says Conte will ask to leave Tottenham

He wrote: “Antonio Conte and the Tottenham board enjoy a good relationship. The Spurs’ manager’s contract will expire next June 30th, and the club has already offered him the possibility to stay with a new deal. However, Conte is now focused on the present, he does not want to think about his future.

“So, he asked the club to put the situation on stand-by. Conte is not living an easy moment, speaking about his private life: in the last few months, he has lost three good friends: Gian Piero Ventrone, Gianluca Vialli, Sinisa Mihajlovic.

“Some days ago, he said in press-conference: “Sometimes we place so much importance on work and put aside our families, the need to be with them. Then things like this happen and they make you think”.

So, our feeling is that Antonio Conte, at the end of the current season, will ask the club to terminate this adventure and, maybe, come back to Italy, to stay closer to his family, with new opportunities.

“But, as things stand, what Conte asked Spurs is now to put his future in stand by, after their contract proposal: there are no negotiations ongoing and he hasn’t asked yet to leave and he’s fully focused on Tottenham.”

The quotes are what he said to sky and the paragraph I have highlighted, which all the internet has run with for drama, was something Di Marzio never said to sky sport news. It’s utter bullshit.

The final paragraph is what he actually said when asked about conte’s future. He hasn’t asked to leave. They aren’t discussing a contract now. But that doesn’t mean they won’t before the end of the season. The rest is just supposition.

This sheds a lot of light on this situation, and I can understand where Conte is coming from. I do think he will give it his best go for the rest of the season. I only hope that the players will play as hard as they can if they think he won't be coming back.

They should because:

1: That's what they get paid to do
2: They'll all bemoan a lack of CL football when it's their application that gets them it
3: Any new manager will surely have eyes

Feelings can change, the pain of bereavement and the reflection it brings will pass with time.

I've no doubt he's questioning his future right now, he's in his fifties and isn't gonna live forever, he's loaded and after everything it's natural for him to reassess what's important in life.

However if as a team we're in good shape come season end, his relationship with the board is good, he feels he's being backed and can see success around the corner, he'll find it hard to walk away I think. Also remember if he goes, so do his staff and I think he's the type to take that responsibility seriously.
There's no obvious big clubs who want him, Juve are fucked who were the obvious ones. Big Spanish and German clubs won't have him, nor will our English rivals so his options are limited. AC Milan? Is that even possible after Inter?

As has been said.....time can be a healer. I think Conte is potentially seeing how he feels after a few more months, hence his request to put negotiations on hold.

If I were him I would go back to Italy and live out my life in a more relaxed way.
Conte might need the cut and thrust of football management to help him get over his losses, not ponder too much.
Effectively retiring especially if you feel unfulfilled career wise is a big decision.

I'm fine with him staying until the end of the season and then going in the summer hopefully with an FA Cup and a top 4 place. I just dont think he is the guy for the major surgery we need and i just dont like the football.

If he stayed, you might get another year, it would be more short term thinking. I certainly wouldnt see him being happy about letting Lloris, Dier, Perisic snd Son go because thats the sort of experience and charachter he wants. We'd have to loan or sell Spence, Gil, maybe Sarr and i doubt he'd start Udogie much.

Carragher nailed it on Monday, when he said the likes of us, Woolwich and Liverpool have to build over 2 or 3 seasons to compete properly and Conte isnt that guy. We need to find someone that is.

Cheap , won’t ask for much to be spent and will get some fans onside
:pochhail:
yea a meek little yes man. great. might as well get little winks back and give donkey dier the armband

no thank you

Seeing that spurs usually play matches at weekends he can’t see them for more than 1 full day a week - guess he flies back after games. Has his day off with them and then flies back.

Must be a bit shit for him. Most premier league football managers work 7 days a week too. They don’t ever really switch off.
For £15m a year and bonuses, I suspect he is getting by.
