Apparently backed means a brand new starting XI full of 40M players (no cheap punts) and then 40M reserves in case of injuries.
To me backing him would have been making a statement on the 1st January that we mean business and Paying the release clause for Porro , and getting another Quality Centre back , the Danjama or whatever his name is transfer sums up our strategy, yeah he might turn out decent and i will reserve judgement till he has been here a few months but the whole thing just stinks of desperation and getting anyone in as they are cheap, its like we don't have a strategy, or our strategy is still buying Young up and coming prospects ie Djed but that doesn't align with the manager we hired and he wont play them, maybe its a case that Levy is not willing to back Conte fully until he signs another contract? If thats the case why aren't we giving him an ultimatum , he either commits or he is gone?
Obviously we are all making a lot of assumptions as we dont know what goes on behind closed doors, however i thought getting a manager like Conte would mean we get him decent players to play the only system he plays, otherwise whats the point?
If the club turned round and said they are parting ways with Conte and laid out a 5 year plan saying we want to rebuild , integrate youth etc then i could live with that, it just seems we have a scattergun approach trying to get players who are cheap, sometimes it works IE Kulu and Bennie, but for every Kulu there are 3 or 4 Bergwijns!
TLDR - You dont hire a manager like conte and not provide him with the tools he needs to win games!
Backed mean dont have players in the squad who wouldn't even make the bench for any of the so called Top 6, can you honestly say the likes of
Sess, Royal, Dier, Doc, Davies, Sanchez, Lenglet even Hugo would start for any of the supposed big clubs?
Maybe they have 1 weak link, but you only have to look at our Defence apart from Romero all of them are shite!!!!!
|You could even Add Son in the form he has shown this season, would any supposed Top club where the manager is backed keep playing him hoping he shows some form or would he be benched with someone else to take his place?
You can’t ship off a dozen players. You named 8 and yet we also have winks, lo celso, and ndombele as players that no one wants.
And conte kept playing son and even benched Kulusevski earlier in favor of son. He’s had opportunities to try other things like Gil or perisic but he hasn’t. Son starting a million games is his fault. And Son’s backup was sold over the summer because conte didn’t give him enough time.
I don’t think conte has been backed to the level of man city or United because we aren’t at those clubs financial level, but he’s been backed as much as any manager we’ve had.

There was a vote on here where the majority gave our transfer window 7 or 8 out of 10.
10/10 being exceptional and 5/10 being adequate.
So think the majority thought he had been backed.

I don't think so and judging by his comments and mood as soon as the window finished, he didn't think so either.
Forsight would have been knowing 2 of our most important players would forget they were footballers.
Deep Forsight would have been knowing a lot of the existing squad over performed for half a season and needed upgrading.
Doesn't excuse the neglect shown for the players we did sign.
