Transfers January 2023 Transfer Thread. The Big One

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Woolwich are top and have spent 50 million on players already this window. We've signed a player on loan from Villareal & are haggling over a 45m release fee in the last few days of the window. Woolwich were also ready to pay a huge fee for Mudryk & have now bidded 60m for Caicedo. They are top & flying, we are 5th and in a rut.

Anyone who claims to not see the difference in how the clubs operate is being disingenuous. Does anyone on here seriously believe if we were in their position, Levy would be making 110-120m in funds available for players in Jan? They're no richer than us, we as fans should be expecting more..

I think there are a lot of players who would be moved on before Sanchez.

We have 6 players out on loan that could drop back onto the wage bill in the summer for example, only Udogie has any chance of playing for us while Conte is manager.

Finding somewhere for Rodon, Ndombele, Reguilon, Winks and Lo Celso to continue their careers is something that someone at the club should be working hard on.

Trouble is, nobody wants them. If they did then we'd have sold them in the summer. They are being paid too much so we cant sell. It is quite the quirk of fate as 5/6 years ago we were told Spurs wouldn't be able to keep their players by everyone, because we don't pay them enough, now we cant fuck them off....because we pay them too much!

How is it fair enough that he gets to play in sporting a league cup final, what if he gets injured and messes up the whole deal?

He’s clearly been our number 1 target all window, he should have been playing for us by now instead of us haggling over instalments, just pay the release clause it’s not even that much.
Maybe it’s HIM that wants to play in the final and he won’t sign until afterwards?

They've signed Trossard, who most of the people in this thread called shit and not good enough for us and a centre back 95% of this forum have never heard of. They werent willing to stump up the fees to get a known Woolwich supporter in Mudryk and instead signed Trossard instead. Proper bargain basement stuff.

No one outside of super clubs like City, Chelsea or PSG get release clause deals done early.

We all see how the clubs operate. They're fantastic, wonderful and perfectly run.

Trossard = good depth signing for a team with a flying LW. He'd have been a meh signing for us because we need someone to start every week because Son is finished.

And I'm sure most of this forum had never heard of Saliba or lots of other players doing well for them, who cares? They're spending & looking at dumping another 60m on one of the highest rated midfielders outside of the top 4.

Ambition.

they're paying much less for their stadium now, I think that will make difference to cashflow

I agree that Trossard is a good signing. But if we had made the same two signings, we'd have been slaughtered. That's a fact.

Trossard would have been labelled as someone who isn't good enough to get in our starting eleven and the new centre back would have been called a nobody when Skriniar is available etc etc etc.

They can put a bid in for Caicedo. They aren't getting him. Just like they couldn't get in a known Woolwich fan in Mudryk.

The Window hasn't finished yet, if we end up with Porro and a decent CB then we would have had a better window than them, I think even if we get the Porro done and he is as good as people say then we have had a great window as its a position we are crying out for?

Because we're in a different situation. They're top by 8 points so a good PL player as depth and investing for the future is smart. We need difference makers now so the expectations are not the same. Although personally I'm pro more future building anyway, which is why I'm really happy we've gone after Porro. Exact kind of profile we should be targeting.

We'll see. They're throwing their hat in the ring for top tier talents like Caicedo and Mudryk, it won't pay off every time but they're in equation.

The fact they signed this CB "no one has heard of" despite having White/Gabriel/Saliba on the books is telling.

Meanwhile we roll out Dier and Davies every week and no incoming CB in sight.

I'm excited about Porro, he looks great.

If we go out and get a legitimately really good CB as well, then fair play. Haven't seen any solid links at all yet though.

Add to the fact it isn't just being overpaid, it’s working in an unrivalled workplace that’s paradise (in terms of luxury) compared to some other clubs. They are just too comfortable and it’s the clubs fault for refusing to sell at a loss to get them off the books. They are learning (Dele, Aurier) but less loans and more sell on.

Woolwich are showing ambition & are looking to improve on what they have & we are not. To bring in a player on a 4 month loan who is behind Bergwijn in the pecking order for the Netherlands is absolutely baffling to me. We should be bringing in players who will improve our starting 11 which to be perfectly honest, really isn’t good enough in a number of positions & all we do is bring in more bench warmers. I really do wonder what is going on at Spurs.

He wouldn’t have the choice if we just paid the release clause earlier in the window

Of course now with it a day away and nothings completed he will want to play in the final

How many deals involving release clauses get done early?

Clubs are always going to haggle to get out of paying an upfront fee when a fee close to that price or totalling that price over installments is preferred.
