Transfers January 2023 Transfer Thread. The Big One

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Because it's part of a general trend of transfer business which has them where they are, and our general trend has us where we are. It's not at all about every individual case and whether they get every single one of them.

Simple as that, factual. I won't be expanding further as the positivity merchants/you're a gooner merchants are circling.
Come on, last season we were laughing our tits off at them, since then they've signed 2 City reserves, a Brighton squad player that we were all turning our noses up at before they moved in, and some unknown cb for their ressies...

They are where they are not because of great business, not because lighbulb wanker is a genius, not because their players are suddenly amazing, but because the stars have aligned, City have decided they cba this year, and (begrudgingly to their credit) they have taken confidence from a good run of results and begun to believe in themselves which is helping them to continue their roll...

Even if they win the league, for me this isn't the beginning of a dynasty for the scum, it's them capitalising on a once in a blue moon opportunity, just like the Leicester title win.

At the risk of getting dragged into another endless circular discussion, there is a fundamental difference between falling short in the 60 to 80 million transfer range, and haggling over scraps.

Doesn't Dybala get waved about as an emblem of our failings (rather than ambition) in the trf market though?

......We get accused of pretending when such deals don't pan out.

The funny thing is that Arse can often be found accusing their owners of the same.

Can you seriously not understand our fans frustration ffs!!!!

WE finished in the Champions League places. But it's them who's kicked on an backed their manager to the hilt despite being a less wealthy club than ourselves. The reversal in fortunes is absolutely disgusting to see. Yet you just seem to shrug if off like you couldn't give two fucks. It's Woolwich for God sake.

With the greatest of respect, you seem to enjoy patronising other passionate Spurs fans desperate to see our club finally make an effort to fucking capitalise and use our financial muscle to kick on.

There's no need for it tbh
There's a cult of positivity in this world that drives me up the wall. Wherever you go, whatever you do, the majority of people just can't handle thinking about negative stuff (bad news, failures, future problems) and just call you a whiner if you do.

You better not say the obvious negative thing otherwise it'll bring the mood down and everyone will judge you.

Yeah that's the main problem with this board, the nonstop positivity.

200 million Euros in the transfer market is backing Conte, whether the scum buy Caicedo or not.
no no, you was there to show that we were the third club in the world for money spent on the market, now maybe you have changed your mind.
and I repeat, this squad needed and still need a renewal in many roles, with or without conte. many players bought weren't for conte, but for the club's future like udogie and spence. emerson gil and romero were bought BEFORE conte's arrival.
only considering those players it's something around 130 M, that we spent not for conte, so stop saying this 200M stupid thing

Yeah we'll be 3rd once we wrap the Porro deal. If the Scum manage to scrounge up the money for Caicedo we'll be 4th in the world, which is somehow not backing him?

Agree to disagree on a lot of this. We won't really know until next season but I see a lot of the fundamentals there that weren't present for Leicester. I won't go in to detail on that as a lot of it as it's old ground, but that's my view. I certainly wouldn't expect them to dominate the league for any length of time, but I expect the platform to be there in the next 5+ years.

Signings like Porro will help us reach that same platform. Young, energetic, exciting. The only drawback of signing him that I can see is that he's very specifically tailored to the wing-back role and our uncertainity with the manager means it's hard to wed ourselves entirely to a 3-5-2/3-4-3.

bigger problem is if Paratici is on the outs. It's his vision to play the 3 at the back system. Hence the Spence/Undogie now Porro signings. If Conte leaves, Paratici will still find a coach that plays 3 at the back.

This narrative about them being a shining example of a well run club once again underlines just how short people's memories are.....

As recent as last season Arteta_Out was trending on numerous occasions; their fans continued to bemoan a lack of ambition, Kronke was a villain easily on par with Levy and Edu was pretty much hated and considered unfit for the job.

Or that they disagree with the people who said the below things?

I agree about lloris. I love lloris. Not blaming him at all. But do you actually want him to stay at spurs and start games still (knowing very well he's no longer reliable) or do you not want us to get a new goalkeeper who will be reliable and help us win games?

Same with the other players in the list. As spurs fans I (and Im sure others) wouldl want the mediocre players , who have been shite for a while, gone and be replaced with better ones, so that the club has a chance of winning something. There is no legit reason to want the likes of Dier, Davies, Sanchez, Bellyboy, Winks etc to stay and start games .
I want Lloris to be replaced.
Also want him to start until the end of the season. At least now I do. I'd have dropped him after woolwich.

Same for the others or at least most of them. Sess is young and homegrown. Probably a minority that hasn't given up on him. Davies is a very good squad player as well, one that got us into the CL last season.

But if we are serious about really trying to win, the summer will be the time to review. Not sure you try to gut all your squad in one hit tho.

Not sure it's Paratici's vision to play 3 at the back - Nuno came here and played with a 4, and a few of our other targets weren't wedded to the 3. I think it's more a case of Conte being the most gucci manager we could target by far and then tailoring everything around that.
