Player Cristian Romero

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

‘If’ is doing a lot of heavy lifting
If Harris didn’t fumble for Hojberg to pounce
If Mahrez shot went in not hit the bar
If VAR was it stupid self and call a pen on Hugo

Need I continue? None of these things happened

If Romero didn’t commit Grealish for that 2nd yellow and he ran through creating a 3 on 1 situation

If.
Point is, he put us in a heavy disadvantage in the last minutes of the match, and people taking it in stride because it worked out.

Fof what it worth, i think the hit on the viking ( which i can spell) was all about letting him know. Calculated, cold and fucking brilliant.
Grelish. Did what was needed for the team.

The Eric Dier thread is over there mate. Enjoy yourself for once.
Oh look, someone I had to unignore to read is bringing up fucking Eric Dier again when we're talking about Romero's terrible disciplinary record with a yellow card rate that is only increasing over time.

Started 29 matches for Tottenham last season, 12 yellow cards (1 of which was a sending off for a 2nd yellow). 2551 mins played, a card every 212 mins of football.

This season he has started 18 matches for Tottenham, 8 yellow cards (1 of which was sending off vs. City). 1628 mins played, a card every 203.5 mins of football.

There was a period near the end of last season where he wound his neck in, still played well and avoided a lengthy ban. He's 25 in April and if he wants to be really World Class, he needs to sort this side of his game out.

The ratio of his yellow cards is far too high on the fucking stupid side to the clever/necessary side IMO. He's a very good player, but his temperament is by far the worst aspect of his game and he needs to sort it out.

Only a matter of time before he picks up his first straight red.

Or he'd(Grealish) would have chosen his favorite option taken one step and thrown himself on the floor. You got 'IF' doing dumbells too.

I am usually mad at players taking red and leaving the team in disadvantage.

However, I don't have any issue with what Romero did.

He personally and us as a team, we did something really important. We made this game very uncomfortable to City players. We took the enjoyment out of it. We kicked them, nudged them, pushed them we did some winding up. And it ruined their mood. Look at the faces and body language of City players.

So often we play polite football. We back off and try to win it in a "nice way". FUCK THAT. We need points in the table. We need to tackle, kick, nudge, push, shout - everything.
I also enjoyed how Davies came out of the line to tackle City players. So did the midfielders.

I want MORE of that in the future.
Sure, it can yield in some red cards. And so what. Our "respectful, gentlemans approach" yielded fucking 21 goals conceded in fucking 10 games. I don't want any of that anymore.

But that’s what he (Grealish) took a step and threw himself to the floor (hanging a leg on the way and bamboozling the gormless ref)

You’re actually making my argument for me. Welcome aboard
I'm really not, the point is it's speculative...if your granny had wheels she'd be a bus stuff. We got away with it and there's a strong argument that he facilitated the win with the first tackle. The best tend to walk that line Pepe Terry Chavalleo. Only King was spotless in the tackle and didn't use intimidation but he was pretty unique.

"World class" players figure out a way to stay on the pitch. It's very hard to influence the game if you're not playing in it.

There's a balance. I think the argument on Romero is best left until the summer when we can look back and see what he's given us over the second half of this season. Disappointed in his level and availability for us so far this season, but he obviously has it in him to be a difference making player for us. Even with his red card y'day I thought he had a very good game, some of the stuff he did was stuff you don't really see from many players. The interception and charge up the field leading to Perisic siding a ball just beyond Kane was a great intervention. You look at players like Sergio Ramos, had around 10-14 yellow cards
per league season throughout the prime of his career and averaged around 1.8 red cards per league season. Now, Romero has a mile to go before he offers what a Sergio Ramos offers to a team on so many fronts.. and likely won't ever be that level of player.. just illustrating that many great players play on the edge and you don't want to dull that aspect of them too much. Hopefully he figures it out. Again, I've been kinda disappointed in him but if he can go out and be one of the best defensive players in the league/cups for the next four months I can forgive a few cards. Team looks more compact and physically sharp the last few weeks so hopefully things are starting to come together.
