Realistically, which coach is going to take the Spurs job now?

It's going to be another Nuno shit show, but this time there will be no Conte to bail us out.

Many. We pay well, expection from the board is nothing more than top 4 you can bin the cups and reputation of the manager isn’t in question as it’s Spurs where all managers fail anyway.

Lots of money, low expectations, no or little rep damage. It’s semi retirement.

A younger manager with fresh ideas and no baggage who trains his teams to play in and attractive and effective way like Kompany, Carrick and Arteta (yes I said it) do. Give him time to build, we are basically in the same state as in 2014 when Poch came in, and we need to be smarter in our recruitment.

Tbh I like the look of the Sporting Lisbon manager Amorim, the football is fun to watch but the only concern is the 343 formation he favours and whether it will be exposed in the PL.

Other than mentioning Arteta who I still think is the David Brent of football. As soon as they choke the league, those woolwich players will turn on him like the Spurs players have on Conte and Jose before.

But Kompany, Carrick, Amorim… Any of those 3!

Personal preference is Amorim because of what he’s done

I thought that when we got rid of Jose and then another “top” manager eventually came in. There’s going to be no shortage of people wanting to work for us and get a huge pile of cash every month.

I think kompany and carrick need a few more seasons learning the trade. Its all going well now for them but lets see how they do in the future.

BMJ anyone? :bmj:

Looking back at our managerial appointments, (includng pre Levy) we've always seemed to miss the mark on who we SHOULD be getting...

I'm gonna go back to ex-players like Ossie and Hoddle, you can see what the club was trying to do, but both were disasters for different reasons (at least Ossie's team was fun to watch at first!)

So the ex-player route didn't work out for us... so we went down the Woolwich route by hiring a seemingly 'educated' vaguely Germanic/geeky looking manager in the Arsene Wenger mould ... only got it spectacularly wrong 'cos Christian Gross was so shit!

George Graham was a massive PR disaster, even though he won us a pot.... they only had to look back at the Terry Neill lesson, that hiring a Gooner was never really gonna work out long term!

At least Juande Ramos won us a trophy... but again, was never gonna be the long term solution and never really adapted to England....

We tried a poundshop Mourinho in AVB, and that backfired, although maybe he could've been given more time. cos the seeds were there...
...and then we actually GOT Mourinho, except it was 15 years too late!!

We only got Jol by default 'cos Santini was such a mess!

Poch was the one we had in his prime, relatively untested and at first he absolutely flourished... but then, like we always do, turned him to mush too...

Conte is basically the Mourinho model (ex-Chelsea - 'cos THATS worked before - 'Top drawer' coach, just a few years too late!)

I know that's not the right chronology, and I know I've missed a few... I was just trying to work out which of our last dozen or so managers have been met with widespread approval in terms of quality of football/popularity...
I'd say only Jol and Poch. That's IT!

In terms of players we've had throughout those managers, at any one time we've had the likes of a prime Bale, Modric, VdV, Kane, Son, Lloris, Dembele, the list goes on.... for none of them to have a trophy to their name whilst at the club is as criminal as it is damning!

EDIT:  I knew I'd missed someone!
Probably on a par with Jol/Poch for feelgood factor... But as always, it ended in acrimony, and has pretty much bitched about the club (well, his SON certainly has) in one form or another whenever asked!

Farkin' run araand a bit!

It's got to the point where I mostly don't care.

Famous or young and hungry, fancy-dan foreign or proper British, three. four or five at the back.

I just want exciting new synergies and dynamic revenue streams from our customer-facing leisure hub.

Football is just so 20th century working class, so gauche. It's all about the EBITDA for me from now on.

Drink it up...

I'm not even sure who I want anymore.

I personally wanted Carrick and to start and reset under him. But thats never going to happen. De Zerbi was another one but I don't know why he'd even come here since he's doing well at Brighton and can get a bigger club in a season or two. I thought Enrique would be a good choice as well but we'd need to have a long term vision to actually adopt his style of play even after he leaves which I don't really see happening.

Postecoglou and Gallardo feel like the type of appointments that have worked out for us in the past.

Completely this.

Bringing in some big ego with 100s of trophies under their belt to tell our squad how shit they are has now failed twice.

We need a young manager who is looking to forge his reputation in the game and wants to grow with Spurs. We need progressive, attack-minded football.

In parallel we need to phase out the remaining Poch-era players, yes even Kane.

Complete reboot.

If this is true it’s basically the club admitting they fucked up for 4 years and wasted everyone’s time.

I guess it means if we aren’t going to get Tuchel or Luis Enrique that is probably for the best. Young and up and coming you would think Kompany, Amorim, Carrick etc.
