The transfer window opens at midnight on Sunday, unless the 2023-24 rules (not published yet I don't think) differ from how they have been for as long as I've been checking them (over 10 years now, precisely because of posts like this).

I refer you to page 239 of the Premier League Handbook Season 2022/23

V.2. The Summer Transfer Window in any year shall:
V.2.1. conclude at 17:00 on the Thursday before the commencement of the
relevant Season...
V.2.2. commence either: (a) at midnight on the last day of the Season; or (b) at
midnight on the date 12 weeks prior to the date on which it is to conclude
(in accordance with Rule V.2.1, above), whichever is the later.

The "12 weeks prior" clause doesn't apply as next season starts on 12 August, making twelve weeks earlier Thursday 10 May.

That may be correct?

I was going off a number of media reports including the Evening Standard who have said it will officially open on June 14th this year?

Not 3rd rate managers at all, not just 'flavour of the month' fashionable names.

Rodgers starts well & then seems to fade. No reason he couldn't do well here for a couple of seasons and get us over the hump.
Potter was the the chosen prem guy not long back, just because he couldn't sort the chelsea clusterfuck in a few months doesn't mean he would fail here.

Ange has done very well at Celtic.

Ok maybe some upcoming young coach from abroad or Carrick may be a good shout?

who would you suggest?
To be honest mate I wouldn't suggest anyone, there really is no point...whoever it is has no chance just like all the other enic managers.
They would all fail here as that is what always happens under this regime, nothing changes.

Totally. Even if there was no more money and even if they werent brilliant. Just a new broom, fresh ideas, a better working atmosphere, a chairman or CEO that hadnt pissed off 90% of the footballing world. It would be a massive boost to the whole club.

I'd even take the sports washers now despite being strongly against that kind of thing for years. I'd may stop short at a murderous dictator, but then again that's only 50 50 compared to keeping on Levy and ENIC.

We remind me now of Newcastle for a lot of those years under Ashley, just without the relegations. Stale, an acceptance of mediocrity, terrible decisions, terrible in the transfer market. Stumbling from one manager to the next with no continuity or plan. Look at them now, in 18 months without spending a fortune....yet. New ideas, good manager, good people installed on the footballing side, all pulling in the same direction.

So in the space of 1 season we have gone from finishing 4th in the League and playing Champions League football yet we're like Newcastle?

Honestly, I agree about the strategy being shite at the moment but you're just being completely over the top with your comparison.

I totally get the negativity but It depends what you mean by fail & has no chance?
Poch really did very well, Harry did good things.
I don't think Conte & Mourinho were a good fit.

Do I think we can win the league.
No I absolutely don't.

Can we be pushing upwards again, getting into Europe & challenging for Cups?

Which is kinda where we should be.

Yes absolutely.

Look at Villa, similar historically sized club although I maintain we have overtook them who were really struggling under Stevie G.

Emery comes in with the same players & gets on a good run & may take them back into Europe?

The right manager, some good additions, confidence back in the side no reason we cant do that.

4th isnt the norm anymore though is it. We had a great 10 games or so back end of the season and fair play but its 6th, 7th, probably 8th apart from that. Besides its just more the feel of the club, one thats just aimlessley drifting rather than pure league position.

From 2007 until the end of the Ashley era in 2021, Newcastle finished in the top 9 a total of one time (5th in 2012). We haven’t finished outside the top 9 since 2007.

I agree we are shit but it’s not an accurate comparison.

Everton from 04-18 is probably a closer example. I don’t think they had an acceptance of mediocrity as they tried to spend but they just didn’t know how to ever get it right.

Why isn't it the norm anymore? Last season would we have said we would have finished 4th under Nuno being a directionless club and then appointing Conte who got us into the top four?

Things can change in football. You make it sound as though having a run of 10 good games is easy, if it's that straight forward why couldn't we do it now?

The feel of the club is crap right now, I 100% agree with that but some of the absolute nonsense that gets posted on this thread is ridiculous.

Again its not about league position. Its an overall feeling of mediocrity, of terrible decisions, of a fanbase hating the ownership and just waiting for something to happen or change and everyone just going through the motions until that day. Its drift, staleness call it what you will.

I'd take the Krays if they were still around and interested.

I'm sick of ENIC.

What about this guy? Meant to have some cash.

We are only 5 years removed from a Cl final and Newcastle couldn’t even consistently stay in the top flight.

I edited my other post to say Everton seems like a closer comparison from 04-18, then they had their recent fall out due to those poor decisions.

That's what people need to grasp.

We haven't been lower than 9th for over 15 years!!

We aren't going to get relegated.

We are the 7th most successful club in the history of the English game.
Our squad spending is usually around 5th to 8th. So that's where we should be.

We will have good years & not so good years like ALL clubs.

Feeling 'over entitled' & we should be top 4 EVERY season is really the issue.

Last 4 seasons. 6th 7th, 4th, 8th. This is with Kane and a mostly in form Son. Of course things can change but that is increasingly unlikely to happen with owners that have been making appalling decisions for 5 years. They suddenly arent going to start making brilliant ones. Its become like a gambler chasing his losses.
