It's just still crazy to me that we aren't into Nagelsmann.

Not: JN prefers Chelsea (he rebuffed them).
Not: JN is demanding too much money (that hasn't been reported at least and that's all I can go on)
Not: JN is waiting to see if Real's job comes available

Just, we didn't like his DOF options? If this is true, and I know reporting is unreliable, I'll never understand it.

Naglesmann who has done rebuilds and projects and also has been in big spots in high-level leagues and who plays attractive football: No, thanks we want Ange instead.

And I know that some of my questioning of Ange is literally that he's older and looks like someone who would play shit football (he doesn't, his football would be a ton better than what we saw for the last 3 years), but Nagelsmann just makes so much sense that it's hard to accept the alternative.
100%!

Celtic mad cousin...

Ange will do wonders if given time by the fans. Might be a rocky first season but if he can get players to buy in to his style you’re in for some fun times!

Nah, can't say I did.

I think the main reason why there’s such an outrage over Postecoglou is because of the lack of clarity over Nagelsmann.

Every single Spurs fan would rather hear that Nagelsmann rejected us, rather than the club saying they’re not even going to bother interviewing him. Fucking idiotic decision from the club. We need that clarity or else people will not stop complaining as to why we aren’t bothering going for him

For all we know, Nagelsmann could be completely open to coming still given the right conditions (a DOF that can benefit both him and the club). And therefore this is why the majority are outraged over the Ange news
Yes this is it for me as well. I want to know why we arnt going for jn especially given levy wanted him in 2021. Also of all the managers being linked why did they only issue a statement about JN abd saying he was not under consideration. They have not come out and said that about anyone else. Further it’s not like they were asked a question by a journo or anything. They came out with that unilaterally. Strange thing is that no one from JNs team have come out and responded? You’d think they would something like “well we weren’t interested in Tottenham anyway”.

Figure he must have zero interest in the job.. or won't engage without Kane signing a contract, or any amount of reasons that would put off him and his advisors. Way the club has been managed in recent years they don't deserve to attract a manager like that. From a sporting perspective we have become uniquely heedless, and everybody who follows football knows it. Media noises you'd have to imagine are attempts at face-saving, and even that has been poorly handled

My Concern with Postecoglu is in the 3 jobs he has had that are considered a success (Brisbane, Yokohama and Celtic), in 2 of those, his results were dreadful in his first season.

Brisbane - The team he took over finished the previous season 3rd. In Ange's first season, they finished 9th (out of 11) and lost more games than they won.

Yokohama - The team he took over finished the previous season 5th. In Ange's first season, they finished 12th (out of 18) and lost more games than they won.

The last time we lost more games than we won, was the season we had 2 points from the first 8 games.

He starts the first season like that with us and he doesn't last the season.

Edit: He also had a poor 3rd season at Yokohama (again losing more than he won) so he was literally a 1 season wonder there. Kevin Muscat has done a better job replacing Ange at Yokohoma, He also replaced Ange at Melbourne and did a better job there too.

After reading this, I have even less optimism for an Ange appointment.

I get that concern, which is why I think Spurs are the wrong team for him. He has a strict vision for how he wants to play, and will need the players to do it.

We had a terrible start under him. By the end of September we were down in 6th place - unthinkable for Celtic. Some fans were wanting him sacked. We then went unbeaten in the league until the end of the season. Wasn't always pretty, though, and it was probably only after the winter transfer window - and him bringing in more of his type of players - that we really hit our stride.

Obviously our financial advantage and poorer level of opposition helped him turn things round quicker. But he'll be starting from a better position than he was with us, because our squad when he took over really was a shambles. But that's balanced by the Spurs being up against teams of a far higher quality.

I think he'll do a good job if you give him time. But, as you say, he might not get it.

I think this is one of the more genuine concerns that I have. In saying that some of it is misleading, he obviously took over mid-season at Brisbane when they were bottom. First full season wins the league. Yokohama you're correct. I'd also argue that he's had 5 successful jobs, the other two being Australia and South Melbourne.

Was just about to post that. Roar were in tatters when he took over. Like I said earlier, not much better than semi pro level. To go from that to Champions?

Ange's third season at Yokohama was broken up by the COVID pandemic, I'd give him the benefit of the doubt for that season too

Good point, but pretty sure they were 8th when he took over not bottom and he still only won 6 and lost 8 in 17 games.

Melbourne was decent but Muscat has done even better and International Football is so different than Domestic, that I don't even consider it (same goes for Enrique, who I also have concerns about).

This is one of my reservations about the notion of jumping straight into people like De Zerbi, Slot (all of whom I really like as coaches and play a brand of football I want ultimately) and why I've suggested people like Potter and Nagelsmann might make more sensible evolutionary sense.

This squad we've got could get absolutely murdered by the brutal methodology that I'd ultimately like to see eventually. It could get really ugly, like third season Bielsa scary.
