Manager Ange Postecoglou

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

My main reservation with Ange is how crap Celtic were in Europe. We need to be patient here. I wouldn't be shocked if in the first 10 games we took a few batterings whilst he figured his system out against the very best players in the world - not the SPL dross.

Fully onboard the Ange train. Just bracing myself for some very difficult moments.

That's a fair observation. I'd say though we've put in less than stellar performances under the so called "Elite" coaches in Europe too. The way we whimpered out against Milan, with Conte defending a 1-0 deficit for some fucking reason was a disgrace, the way we embarrased ourselves in the so called "Farmer's Conference".

It'll probably be a bit like early Poch days - a bit ropey to start with but if Levy is serious about a long term project and vision then he needs to be very careful with that trigger finger of his. Fans too, a quick look back of the Poch thread shows a loud minority calling for his head after less than 10 games. The players have been playing defensive non-pressing counterattacking for years now, it's going to take time. The squad needs major surgery and we all know we won't be able to do it all in one window so there's going to be a fair number of players we'd rather be shot of still playing next season. That's not Ange's fault, we know who's fault this is.

It's not Ange's fault we're in this position right now, and we need to give him time to try and get us out of this. He has the spirit and determination and self belief, but not arrogance. I like his attitude.

Except for the obvious concern that we don’t have a clue if Ange will be any good or not, the other concern I have is wether or not he can build a strong defence. Don’t know anything about is time in Oz or Japan, so only going off his time at Celtic, where he doesn’t really need a defence. In fact, he’s just won a treble with Hart in goal and CCV as his top centre back. So he’s done what he needed to do, but it’s where almost all of our problems lie.

No doubt whatsoever he can build a pressing midfield and a very effective attack (an attack that can both play on the break when needed and get through tightly packed defences), but he’s had a defence that’s rarely properly tested. Can he do this? Let’s hope so.
They do say attack is the best form of defence! I’m already getting Ozzie vibes! :contehandshead:

Is that our new keeper?

That will be awesome 😎

They could keep The Absolute GOAT The Absolute GOAT fully wound up during the ashes along with pleb pleb and Art Vandelay Art Vandelay

We had plenty including Nagelsmann, Poch and Enrique.

To end up with an Aussie most famous for winning yet another domestic Treble with those Scottish 'minnows' Celtic, is a tad underwhelming and concerning.

If Kane does leave, next season could be very messy!
Naglesman psg bound from start.
Enrique boring tiki taka, shocking to watch at world cup. Even pep has moved away from this.
Poch i agree could have been in the running but its rare a return works out.

Jose and conte were over whelming appointments but they turned to shit and set the club back.
Seems people still want a big name just for the sake of it

You have to hope that the players are excited to play attacking football again. They can't have enjoyed the brand of football they've been playing the last few years.

If they can see what Posty is trying to do and get on board with it, then we're improved immediately.

He has big challenges to sort but I'm far more excited to watch Spurs now than I have been in years. I even volunteered to go shopping with the missus a few times recently just to avoid watching the games! That is not a healthy situation!

We need a manager who plays the type of football that the fans want, a manager that will find the right mix of ripping into the players when they don’t put the required effort in and putting an arm around them to explain what they are doing wrong.
It's also the football that the players want, which in itself may make a big difference in how they apply themselves.

Nagelsmann - from German press and also Fabrizo Romano, he would have considered coming but wanted power choosing DoF which clearly the club wasn’t willing to give. Could have been done it appears if we really wanted it.

Slot - we wouldn’t pay the release fee which was quite high.

Poch - can understand reservation but otherwise the clear option and confirmed by Ossie and others he wanted back.

Luis Enrique - yeh agreed, I am not sure this was compatible at all given what he would need.

I am not against Poste, he seems to tick some boxes but it’s a huge step up and we had the chance to get others who ticked the same boxes but less risk it’s actually a big risk that Levy has played.

"Celtic build in a wide 4-3-3 in the very first phase with the wingers on the touchline and the #8's high & between the lines. This shape requires high quality to build out from the back when considering there is a large distance between each of the players in the build-up."

Agree the biggest problem for poch, nagelsmann, Enrique, this dude was always gonna be that back line.
It boarders on disgraceful. The right side is the only side that doesn't need surgery with Emerson, and Spence. Porro perhaps but not sure he can drop back

The rest though all need selling and replacing with higher quality. And that kinda change seems to be beyond our club

Moving to a more front-foot style, pressing high and having more possession should reduce the pressure on our defenders.

Also need to upgrade on the clowns (Sanchez/Dier) and I think we'll be okay.

It could work quite well with Davies/Emerson as the alternating deep fullback with Udogie/Porro/Spence attacking on the opposite side. We just need to give Romero a competent partner - Laporte would be great.
