Mason needs to go and take a job somewhere.

This starts to come off as Levy asking coaches to keep Mason on the staff.

It could be that Mason is also a good coach and Jose, Conte and Ange were all impressed but really need to remove any side channels of info from the changing rooms to Levy.

Mason’s still only 31. He could easily stay with Ange for a few years, and still be a young coach going into his first job in his late thirties.

I’m not really overly comfortable with people trying to tell other people how to deal with their careers. Mason will know what’s best for him, and maybe even more crucially, his family.

Side channels?

Seriously Richard, take the tin foil hat off!

Ange keeping in Mason doesn't surprise me at all. We've already seen Mason try to transition away from Conte's philosophy in our last few games, so it's clear he thinks along similar lines. It's not like he's indentured either. I'm sure that once Mason feels he's ready to take on a managerial role he'll let the club know and they'll let him go with their blessing. Or he may just be fully content in a coaching role.

Suggesting he's a Levy spy though is really stretching the bounds of credibility.
The other thing to consider is continuity. The club may feel that Mason can be groomed into a future Spurs manager, so keeping him on will further his education in man management and tactics.

It makes a lot of sense to me.

After having worked with Conte and Jose, I don't think it would hurt for Mason to work under a proper attacking manager and master motivator. That's as well rounded an education he can get as possible. At 31 he still has plenty of time to go out on his own.

Why tin foil hat?

Reality is Mason and Levy clearly have a very strong relationship. Levy is the type of man who wants to know everything going on inside the changing room.

How would you expect that to go?

I’d be surprised if a lot of Chairmen don’t like to keep staff they trust in each coaching staff… wouldn’t you?

You're arguing with a Levyologist.

Best not too.

They make it personal and it's like wrestling with a chimney sweep.

Mason is useful.

Levy's eyes and ears in the dressing room and gaining more credibility as a coach with each managerial casualty at THFC.

If Levy wants to know he will ask Ryan.

Chris Hughton did a similar job until he went down with the Jol regime.

Hughton could clearly see the futility of being loyal to ENIC, at the expense of the football club, after George Graham, his mate Hoddle, and Jol were all sacked for spurious reasons.

Levy's smoke and mirrors work for a while.

Any chairman would want to have someone that he has a close relationship with and trusts inside the dressing room. What Ionman34 Ionman34 was saying is that in Mason's case he is asked to be part of the coaching staff on merit and the fact that he has a good relationship with Levy is just a bonus for Levy; it's not the determining factor. I doubt Levy or any chairman would be able to force someone onto the coaching staff, if the manager didn't want him. Especially managers with strong personalities like Conte and Ange.

There's a Levy conspiracy behind every corner with you guys.

Yeah I think it’s a good idea. He’s a bright chap and knows that he’s got plenty of time on his side. Plus the wrong move could be a career stalker or killer straight away.

I’m here for the meltdown from certain quarters and the spurs twatterati

Yes a bit like Airfixx, you can't raise a point, because they get very pet and irate.
But when you give it back, it puts them in Defcon 4 mode, very odd, and has the toughness of a fart in a wet suit.😁

It’s the programming. There are certain trigger words/phrases which activate their search & destroy mode.

Like ‘spending’ or ‘ambition’ or ‘trophies’. It’s like throwing a hunk of meat in to piranha infested waters.

Celtic fan here and as much as it pains me to say it, you have landed an absolute top coach and manager. He arrived in Scotland on his own and everyone was saying who the fook is this guy? When he arrived we were in an absolute mess, had lost the league by 25 points and lost our best players like Édouard and Ajer. After a sticky start we started racking up the wins as the players got used to and adapt to his style. What you can expect is a 4-3-3 with three dynamic central midfielders who are all box to box, I doubt he will go for a player that simply is a water carrier although this may be required in the EPL. He plays with inverted full backs and two of the midfield three offen drift wide with the wingers pushing more central. Expect your wingers to score a lot of goals by drifting in to the back post. He also defends from the front. The striker is expected to press defender and goal keeps at all times. This may also have to change if Kane is still at the club. He absolutely does not accept playing long ball football, even from at the back. This can lead to some hairy moments as all of the back four are expected to play the ball out from the back even in the tightest areas

Every player will get a clean slate but if they do not buy into his style or simply can't, they will be shown the door. They also have to run themselves into the ground, this will undoubtedly lead to some snapped hamstrings in the first six months, this I can guarantee. His We Never Stop mantra is very much true. It's a demand players run themselves into the ground

He's is incredibly passionate and a true leader. He also has a fantastic eye for a player, the first two player he tried to sign for Celtic were Kyogo Furahashi and Kaoru Mitoma although Mitoma chose Brighton. He isn't interested in players just because of their name, they must be able to play and buy into his system and also be a good fit for the squad. The central defenders have to be able to pass the ball well.

I think it's a great appointment but you must give him time as it will take time for the players to adjust, especially after playing under Mourinho and Conte. It will be interesting to see Angeball in the EPL. One thing for sure is you won't see boring football

PS don't dare think about taking Kyogo as well
I see a Winks/PEH midfield combo in our future.

I think expectations with Conte were that we would be challenging for the title. That's generally the feeling invoked when hiring a serial title winning manager. Misplaced, with Levy running the show, granted.

We've now hired a manager who has won nothing of note in any of the big 5 leagues. In fact,, he hasn't even managed in the big 5 leagues!

So the general feeling seems to be just getting back into Europe would be a success. A far cry from what we've been expecting in recent seasons. And what a club of our stature and wealth should be aspiring to.

In fact,. I'm seein multiple posts with people saying they'll just be happy to see decent football again! If that's not lowered expectations, I don't know what is!

Yes. I think the expectations across the fan base in terms of achievement have definitely been lowered.
Not saying that's a good thing or a bad thing. People can make their own mind up. But expectations are definitely lower than following the appointments of Antonio Conte and Jose Mourinho
A lot of the lowering of expectation is down to the improvement of opposition teams. Can we be better in one season than Newcastle, Brighton, Villa, Chelscum, ManU, Liverpool, Woolwich, let alone City?
