Management Ange Postecoglou

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

I think expectations with Conte were that we would be challenging for the title. That's generally the feeling invoked when hiring a serial title winning manager. Misplaced, with Levy running the show, granted.

We've now hired a manager who has won nothing of note in any of the big 5 leagues. In fact,, he hasn't even managed in the big 5 leagues!

So the general feeling seems to be just getting back into Europe would be a success. A far cry from what we've been expecting in recent seasons. And what a club of our stature and wealth should be aspiring to.

In fact,. I'm seein multiple posts with people saying they'll just be happy to see decent football again! If that's not lowered expectations, I don't know what is!

Yes. I think the expectations across the fan base in terms of achievement have definitely been lowered.
Not saying that's a good thing or a bad thing. People can make their own mind up. But expectations are definitely lower than following the appointments of Antonio Conte and Jose Mourinho
Would appointing slot be seen as lowering expectations?
Never managed in big 5 leagues, only managing for 5 year, never managed in CL, never managed international. Never managed in a different country but yet people expectations would be higher if we got him.
Very confusing

They hit akanji and Alvarez fir about £35M combined. We spent how much on Soence, and porro to actually not end up with real quality to play rb!
theres no way that alvarez deal is legit. youre telling me no one else wanted him to increase his value? bullshit.

a club thats got over 100 dodgy allegations coming at them sign a player like that for peanuts...yea ok.

akanji i have no question is legit, hes fucking shit lol

I doubt that's the short term goal. The longer term goal for sure. The immediate expectation is to reassess the squad, see a clear improvement in the playing style, and get alignment across the players, club and fans. The next step is for that playing style to eventually start translating into more wins. And only then would the expectation be top 4. How soon these things will happen is anyone's guess. But as long as directionally we are moving towards them, I think there will be patience by the fans and the club.

This is not like when we appointed Jose or Conte. This is more like when we appointed Poch.

That’s for sure a realistic expectation.

If you are Harry Kane, at 29, are you extending your contract for that?

same goes for recruiting top players at their peak.

Alvarez price is as legit as the Haaland one

If FFP gets serious these deals will get pretty common.

Tbh MacAllister is suspicious for 35m as well. Agent pay off very likely

I can see similarities.

I think both appointments have sought to lower expectations of the fan base, whereas the Conte / Mourinho appointments did the opposite.

The announcements on the official website have both been pretty low key too.

Of course, regarding footballing style etc the two appointments are world's apart, but I wasn't referring to that in my post.

Apologies if that's what came across to you.
Fair points, get where you are coming from.

I don’t see that as the Ange appointment lowering expectations. I see that the Conte appointment and all that PR shite about 150m to really compete for titles has just woken enough fans up to the reality of ENICs ambition.

Ange has been brought in to play good football so at least the reality is fun to watch. Also because he’s able to over achieve the reality of ENIC. Like Poch did.

West Ham wanted Alvarez two years ago and were close to completing the deal and Moyes thought he wasn't good enough.

There's some truth and fiction in this. They can get reasonable players for decent prices because they pick guys who have specific skills that suit Pep's system (ex. Akanji). However, they also have gotten a lot of sweetheart deals because they are guaranteed to compete, big wages, and play for Pep. Not to mention almost certainly some illegal sht going on. However, they also can sign guys like Ake for 40 million and have him take a year to settle without batting an eye. Sign Phillips for 45 million who basically doesn't play and it doesn't remotely affect their squad. Grealish was a luxury player his first year at 100 million, etc. Stones has had his ups and downs over the years so they just signed Dias and Laporte in addition. We still can't get over spending 40 million on Sanchez and however much on Ndombele.

If you're Kane, as things currently stand, maybe you don't. But if things progress faster than expected, maybe you do. If we are playing football that the fans and players enjoy and 3/4 into the season we look like we may be nailed on for a CL spot, he just might stay.

As far as recruiting top players at their peak, that would have been a challenge regardless and even more so now. We need to find the hidden gems, which I know is easier said than done, but more importantly find the ones that will suit Ange's system to a tee. Once the results start improving, then we would stand more of a chance at attracting the higher profile players.

Agreed

Celtic fan here and as much as it pains me to say it, you have landed an absolute top coach and manager. He arrived in Scotland on his own and everyone was saying who the fook is this guy? When he arrived we were in an absolute mess, had lost the league by 25 points and lost our best players like Édouard and Ajer. After a sticky start we started racking up the wins as the players got used to and adapt to his style. What you can expect is a 4-3-3 with three dynamic central midfielders who are all box to box, I doubt he will go for a player that simply is a water carrier although this may be required in the EPL. He plays with inverted full backs and two of the midfield three offen drift wide with the wingers pushing more central. Expect your wingers to score a lot of goals by drifting in to the back post. He also defends from the front. The striker is expected to press defender and goal keeps at all times. This may also have to change if Kane is still at the club. He absolutely does not accept playing long ball football, even from at the back. This can lead to some hairy moments as all of the back four are expected to play the ball out from the back even in the tightest areas

Every player will get a clean slate but if they do not buy into his style or simply can't, they will be shown the door. They also have to run themselves into the ground, this will undoubtedly lead to some snapped hamstrings in the first six months, this I can guarantee. His We Never Stop mantra is very much true. It's a demand players run themselves into the ground

He's is incredibly passionate and a true leader. He also has a fantastic eye for a player, the first two player he tried to sign for Celtic were Kyogo Furahashi and Kaoru Mitoma although Mitoma chose Brighton. He isn't interested in players just because of their name, they must be able to play and buy into his system and also be a good fit for the squad. The central defenders have to be able to pass the ball well.

I think it's a great appointment but you must give him time as it will take time for the players to adjust, especially after playing under Mourinho and Conte. It will be interesting to see Angeball in the EPL. One thing for sure is you won't see boring football

PS don't dare think about taking Kyogo as well

What's Ange like at making substitutions? Tbf, that's something Mason was not half bad at (drive those images of Lucas Moura at the liverpool game from your minds).
With the playing style he normally always changes at 60 mins, winning or losing
