You've just straw-manned the fuck out of 1 simple, specific and isolated question.... The crux of it being about the EXPECTATION of being in the top 4 EVERY year.

Try again or not, but meh rest of your nipple-rubbing.

(I expect us to strive for better than 6/7th every season and never said otherwise; but don't let the truth get in the way, JT-jnr.)

I'd call you a jr something in response, but you're like the original ENIC simp. The blueprint for everyone to follow.

"Expect us to strive" - incredibly meaningless statement. In other words, zero actual expectations, therefore no need to criticize those running the club. No desire to hold them to account whatsoever - for anything.

I LOVE how you guys justa-pose 'we've spent the 2nd/3rd most over the last 5 year!' and 'other team spend more, we shouldn't expect top 4!' so seamlessly. The robotic scripts need changing, they're getting olddd...

Were behind us for revenue and quality in the squad.

Invested more, and better. Overtook us.

Are now in the position we were not so long ago and will be more aggressive than we ever will be in terms of chasing top shelf talent.

ENICs model isn’t the only way to do this if you don’t have oil money.

That’s the logical fallacy I hate. Just accepting that other clubs are bigger or cook the books to enable more aggressive transfer/wage policies.

Did their model get us there or thereabouts? Yes several times. Do they really have the hunger or ambition to achieve more than that?

Time will tell.

Again... I have not remotely suggested we should ACCEPT 6th/7th.......

The question was "On what basis should we EXPECT top 4 EVERY season"?

It's an entirely fair question..... (And Arse having a good season this year isn't the answer.)

There is a need for two and I don't think the money is there to get a CB for 50m plus a goaltender plus a dynamic midfielder. Truth be told, I think we'll end up with one for around 20m.

Personally think we raise some transfer fees and space on the wage bills from sales.

I’d def expect:

GK - 30m
X2 CBs
1 creative CM

As a minimum.

Could see one of the CBs being 20-25m and the other more expensive.

Surely Ange coming in means we can expect some left field targets as well.

If we know we aren’t fucking with Woolwich and Chavs chasing 100m players, may as well enjoy the idea of beating them by finding value elsewhere.

Don’t buy the story that ENIC couldn’t match Woolwich but it’s pointless now. May as well get on with it and enjoy it for what it’s going to be. Brighton fans got double the fun out of finishing above us and also spending shite loads less

That's a bit like us finishing above Man C, Chavs, Utd (like we have numerous times over the last 10-15 years)...... Not something they should take for granted though. The same way we shouldn't take top 4 for granted (see my last reply to you).

Punching above your weight is one thing... Staying there is another.... That's the magic recipe.

We shouldn’t, and I’m not really convinced people
do. I, for one, am bored to tears of the Top 4 financial trophy.

Football teams are cyclical, boom and bust, so to speak. You want owners that demonstrate an ability to put a project in place, underpinned by coherent principles and then stick to it over three /four/five years.

And see where you end up.

I really don’t have too much of an issue with ENIC’s spending. I just think they’re fucking useless at the footballing project part - lurching from one approach to another.

Your spiral into being a JT tribute act is a damn shame.... You were an interesting, fun guy to chat football with not so long ago. Genuine shame.

I’d argue we had an opportunity to do more than stay there.

If the club had the fucking minerals to invest in the players Poch needed to improve his squad, who knows where we could have been moving into the new stadium.

“Staying there” is actually a very good proxy for what ENIC see as an acceptable level of ambition and is one of the reasons they don’t really understand that they own a football club, not just a football business.

Anyway, it’s fucking boring. Postecoglou looks like the kind of coach who could get them the opportunity again. Let’s hope they have learned the lesson.
