Newcastle are currently unwilling to match an initial asking price of £60m, but confidence is growing that they will be able to reach a compromise with the recently relegated Championship club.

The bit in the article which says “believe that the move to Newcastle is his desired destination” links to an article in May, which actually says this “ Although Newcastle have been led to believe Maddison would be receptive to the idea of making the move to the North East, there are others interested and he has not given any firm indication of where he wants to play next season.”

Newcastle to reignite move for Leicester's James Maddison

There’s some weird goings on at the telegraph. What’s the bet we are strongly linked before the week is out?
Another unambitious club trying to penny-pinch. #SaudisOut

this is what he says

The Magpies are also hoping to thrash a mutually acceptable fee with Leicester City for England international James Maddison, having been encouraged to believe that the move to Newcastle is his desired destination.

Don't see it being a signing that anyone does quickly.

Makes much more sense to let Leicester stew on the price for a while.

In my mind Biss strides through MF shrugging players off helping us break the press and help us up the pitch like a less silky Dembele.... That's the Brighton player I remember.

Him being sat as our deepest MF shielding the defense is a waste IMO; he's more dynamic than that.

Whether Ange will see it that way; I'd have no idea.

Above point remains though; if we're buying yet another DM they need to be able to progress and recycle the ball well.
Bissouma did that from #6 position. In Postecoglu's system, the 8's need to be good in and around the box, Bissouma isn't. Also the 6 doesn't just shield the defence, they see more of the ball than any other player on the pitch. They don't need to be progressive passers, just need to keep it simple and link play, but also need to be able to dribble the ball under pressure, which IMO, suits Bissouma more.

Just gonna say this. I quite like Sancho. Not a popular opinion right now I guess. I certainly did at Dortmund. I know he's got some flaws, and he may or may not be right for Postecoglou. But I think he's got some talent and could do well in the right circumstances. Whether that's us, who fucking knows.

I loved to watch him at Dortmund, but I think he's another Ndombele, or a Kulusevski at best. Just doesn't have the character to play under the pressure of PL football for a big 6 side.

His issues with discipline were already known at Dortmund.
