Son still has two years left on his contract. Seeing as he played the entire season with a hernia he still had a significant impact (way, way, way down on the previous season in
List of wingers in the PL older than Son:He's not a Grandad mate. I do raise my eyebrows at players we bring in new who are his age but for our players to reach 31 I've zero problem, even if we offer them new deals for an extra year or two, I'm totally fine with it.
We have potential behind him with Gil (a big season for him with an attacking coach) or we loan him out again and see if he kicks on the way we want him to this season.
We are also linked to a couple of players who play in his position so feel there might be some preparations being laid, we will just have to see how that pans out. (There's Devine also in the background - granted he's mainly on the right side of the pitch and haven't seen him play for a couple of years now).
I genuinely don't get why you would compare him to any of these players other than Mahrez.List of wingers in the PL older than Son:
Willian(Fulham) 5/6 in 27 apps
Ayew (Forest) - 0 goals
Stanislas (Bmouth) - 0 goals, probably done in the PL
Kebano (Fulham) - 0
Walcott (RIP Soton) - 2/2 in 13 apps
Mahrez - 5/10 in 30
Sarabia (Wolves) - 1
Salah - 19/12 in 38.
You basically have salah, willian, and mahrez as the only wingers older than him that produce. And they are all far superior technical players. Stats show Son has limited time left as a productive player in this league.
As I understand it, people want him gone because he's "a coward".
Some of the comments about Sonny last season stank this forum out.
If Ange's football translates to the PL then it's a reasonable assumption at this point that Gil could shine. We've only ever seen him play for two of the most passive managers on planet football.

The point is the list isn’t long. And the only productive players are highly technical… not pace reliant.Caveat: The rest of those players were for the most part shit anyway.... Even in their younger days.
Sonny's always been a superior player to WIllian too.
If Bryan Gil, who by the way doesn't really have buckets of goals in his locker even when he's excelled, is who we're relying on in the future we're totally fucked. If Ange's football translates to the PL then it's a reasonable assumption at this point that Gil could shine. Gil is a "vibes" player, most fans really enjoy watching him play (I do) but it's really hard to assess whether he could be a top player or not, top players get selected for not just what they do on the ball but off it also and in his position, especially in the last decade or so, has seen a more formulaic attacking structure's my gut tells me this maybe where he has some issues, but genuinely would love to see him at least be given opportunity for a manager known for attacking football (double quandary is whether Ange can make the step up to this level). I think he has the technical ability, I don't know if he has the legs to press, or is physical enough off the ball (looking for off-the-ball work similar to Bernardo Silva, similar builds, doesn't need to use strength but uses the whole body to step across oppo player, harass oppo for 90mins etc).If Bryan Gil, who by the way doesn't really have buckets of goals in his locker even when he's excelled, is who we're relying on in the future we're totally fucked.
The squad is not as barren outside of Kane and Son as it was when Paratici took over, thankfully, but it is still extremely difficult to see a CL challenger being constructed from the remaining parts.
That Conte hated being here and demanded an always pragmatic and sometimes dire style of play is true. But the notion that he was a poor performing manager is a view that is going to age like fine milk.
A bit sure. But he fell off far more than a bit.You don't think Sonny's reported injury slowed him down a bit?
A good club can move players on immediately before a harsh decline or at worst, soon after while they still have value. As I said throughout last season; whilst his performances had been poor (now there's suggestion as to why!); he has absolutely has enough credit in the bank to survive the cut after just one poor (by his standards) season.
I love Sonny but I wouldn't be terribly fussed if he left this year. We've had the best years of his career and I'm hopeful he might find better form under new management.![]()

Poorly run clubs hold onto these players and put up with years of poor performance until their value is gone.
Son might recover next season and it may be due to a change of style. But he was excellent in 21/22 with conte. It’s not like we changed our tactics last season.
There seems to be a weird denial in admitting age is factoring into son’s decline. It’s not even an abnormal situation like dele… he’s 31 next month.
Problem is Rich and Kulu suck at scoring, so we had to play Son. If we had better options, then maybe it would have been different.i dont know whats worse! if its true that hes been playing with a hernia then thats complete disrespect to kulu and richy who have sat on the bench while watching son turn in stinker after stinker....
Plus he's got plenty of credit in the bank to be allowed 1 bad season.
