So all of Brighton’s gems they are finding are actually bad players because they had low transfer fees?
No, but they depend on their valuations being more accurate than the market valuation. Brighton's scouts have proven they are good in that regard to be fair.
I'm not saying it's a perfect correlation, just that your bathroom renovation analogy doesn't work. It would be like if bathroom renovation prices were based on thousands of consumers being able to watch the company renovate bathrooms, and then deciding on a consensus.

What do they know? Our resident goalkeeper experts Deuterz Deuterz Doom Funk Doom Funk and kingdawson kingdawson have determined that he's a shit GK because he's cheaper than what would have been the 4th highest transfer fee ever paid for a GK. And for one that isn't even world class, has a year left on his contract, and whose team already signed his replacement.
when did I say he's shit you weirdo? I don't even know him.

What it looks like is that we identified our number one goalkeeper choice and then decided to go for the cheaper option when we couldn't strike a deal.

Sorry if I sound pessimistic but I've seen the same shit time and time again.

Whatever. The point is that it’s not a 1.00 correlation. So people have to at least watch a player before saying he’s automatically worse.

Listen I’m not saying that vicario is great, but this actually does seem like a lot of thought had gone into this. The kind of signing Brighton and Brentford get praised for. More importantly, we haven’t deviated from the profile.

Stats don’t mean anything without interpretation. None of us really know what they mean or the full context surrounding them.
