Tottenham Hotspur will reportedly hand Ange Postecoglou a £100million transfer budget this summer.

The former Celtic manager has been tasked with rebuilding the North London club after a dismal 2022/23 season, and has already been linked with the Leicester City’s James Maddison and Bayer Leverkusen defender Edmond Tapsoba.

Woolwich are also interested in Tapsoba, who is thought to be valued at around £60million. That would command a significant chunk of Postecoglou’s nine-figure transfer kitty, according to the Evening Standard. Spurs are also said to be interested in goalkeeper David Raya, while it has been claimed Postecoglou could attempt to take Celtic striker Kyogo Furuhashi to the Premier League.

The 57-year-old coach was denied in his attempts to make the move to Spurs with coaches John Kennedy and Gavin Strachan in tow. The pair will remain in Glasgow to work with new manager Brendan Rodgers at the Premiership champions.

Rodgers has signed on for a second spell at Celtic, agreeing a three-year deal which was announced earlier this week. Meanwhile, Celtic captain Callum McGregor has commented on the return of his former boss.

He said: "Yeah of course the guys at the top of the club have been working really hard and relentless to make this happen.

"You become aware of it probably the start of last week. And there's been a lot of chat, a lot of good work done to get it over the line. It's great we've managed to get him back and it's a real positive step for the club, a real statement of intent.

"The guys here from last time really enjoyed working under him, it was a successful period. And in terms of him coming back it's important we draw that line and it's about what we can achieve moving forward with the new group.

"He's a top level manager, his preparation and detail towards every game, training session, he's constantly thinking football and how to make the club, team and individuals better.

"He's had a brilliant track record of that everywhere he's been and the guys are looking forward to working with him at a close level and the guys who are still at the club, that'll be a really good coaching team."

????

I’ve never said anything negative about the player himself. I, like everyone on this forum, know nothing about him. I do not watch Empoli play football.

He may well turn out to be a new Buffon. What I find hilarious is the sudden explosion of ‘he’s this, he’s that, these Redditors told me and I’ve watched the YouTube!’.

But what I can work out is that Raya was the main target, and from reports it’s the fee which is the issue. If he wasn’t £40m, he’d be a Spurs player. Which suggests we’re not moving on to this bloke because we’re convinced he’s better, it’s because he’s cheaper.

Otherwise from the start we’d have gone for the cheaper, easier to attain option who happened to be incredible.

Be honest, you don’t find it hilarious at all. You haven’t even laughed have you?

You’ve used completely the wrong word there.

No I really do. I mean it might be an exaggeration, but I do find the sudden explosion of interest in wanky football twitter accounts genuinely amusing whenever we sign someone nobody has ever heard of.

‘Omg! CruyffsLeftNut12 told me that this boy is the new big thing! He’s a halfback regista combination who excels at reverse tiki taka Uber kick ball!!’

Tottenham Hotspur have made progress in their move to sign Barcelona defender Clement Lenglet but it won’t be a swap deal.

Clement Lenglet won’t be swapped for Giovani Lo Celso but the defender could still join Tottenham Hotspur this summer.

Newspaper Mundo Deportivo report that Barcelona would like to sign Spurs misfit Lo Celso after impressing at Villarreal.

The idea was for Barcelona to engineer a swap involving defender Lenglet, who spent this past season on loan at Tottenham.

However, Tottenham weren’t keen on that idea, meaning Barcelona will have to negotiate for Lo Celso separately if they want him.

Lenglet could still make his move though as SPORT claim that talks were held between Barcelona and Tottenham on Wednesday.

Progress was allegedly made but Tottenham aren’t rushing into a deal due to Lenglet’s enormous wages at the Camp Nou.

Spurs would be willing to give Lenglet a five-year deal and bring his wages down, but that may still not be enough to get the deal done.

Barcelona are happy to sell on the cheap just to get rid of Lenglet, with Tottenham potentially paying just €5million (£4.3million).

Clement Lenglet of Tottenham Hotspur sets stance on permanent transfer from Barcelona after loan spell

Tottenham can do better than Clement Lenglet
Lenglet started 24 Premier League games last season and was largely forgettable in a dismal Tottenham season.

The Frenchman did a job on the left side of Tottenham’s back three but he had the feeling of a stop-gap from the moment he signed.

Left-footed centre backs are becoming more and more expensive, so taking Lenglet on loan for a year gave Spurs more time to go and find one for the future.

Instead, Tottenham are now left to consider signing Lenglet permanently in a deal which wouldn’t be particularly inspiring.

Sure, the price is cheap and Lenglet may only be a backup as Ange Postecoglou likely moves to a 4-3-3 system, but a five-year deal would take him well into his 30’s.

Lenglet would be on considerable wages too, making this the exact kind of deal Tottenham should be avoiding.

Lenglet may also not be a great fit for Postecoglou’s high line, and we would implore Spurs to look elsewhere before pulling the trigger on a deal for Lenglet.

Why is he so cheap? If everyone who knows anything knows he’s this best Buffon/next huge Italian goalkeeper prospect, why is he going for a ridiculously low fee?

Like I get it, Italian football is broke. But these kind of figures are incredibly low.
20m isn’t cheap for a GK from a lower Serie A club.

These are the prices Inter Juve and Milan like to pay. Then they can sell us above average guys like Tonali for World class money.

If Inter signed him for 20m to replace Onana would you be asking this question?

Nah, Levy and his shot show circus has earned these fan reactions.

Even if they are massive bed wetters, he hasn’t done enough to earn that trust back yet.

This is my summary:

Vicario > expensive hobbit Raya = vive la data scouting revolución

Tapsoba OR Adaraboiyo with Lenglet as CB #2 = where is my Lakers t shirt, purple and gold all the way you cheap bastard.
We need both and all the cloggers shifted
Get out of my head! 😅

About 17m for an elite goalkeeper prospect is on the low side regardless of where you’re playing.

I’d be surprised by the low fee if people were telling me he was the best big thing, yeah. Not if he was a prospect who likely needs a lot of work still - which is where I suspect this guy is more likely to be at.

Do you want us to pay more for him then for no particular reason?

Smart move

It must be incredibly difficult being you and struggling with reading. I mean, how have you read what was typed out and come to the conclusion that I wanted us to pay more for him?

The question was: WHY is he cheap? Are there factors posters with knowledge who can point out why the price seems on the low side considering everything being said about him on here by the Tifo football wannabes?

Asking questions isn’t making demands, just for future reference.

New GK, Tapsoba & Tadarobioyo would be an immense improvement to our defence, although I fancy it's 2 of the 3 given the supposed 100m transfer budget.

Bayer will ask for 40-50m given the length of his existing contract. Pay it up as he looks an excellent foil to Romero and only 24. Tall, quick, high progressive pass numbers and good positional awareness (from what I've seen).
