Finished one place behind 8th place us… is that supposed to be impressive.

You’ve never seen this lad play and you’re writing him off. Ramsdale has been relegated twice..

Brentford have done fantastically well since they've come up and Raya has been a crucial part of this. Not sure why you're downplaying their achievements?

Also, Raya has broken into the Spanish squad so he must be doing something right.

I don't know, £40m doesn't even sound that much for one of the (apparently) richest clubs in the world. Top ten I believe.

Just seemed a no-brainer to me. I guess this is the new Tottenham, lost of risky relatively cheap signings of players most of us have never heard of.

Who?

Are some people seriously suggesting that Empoli are better than Brentford?

Yeah, three Italian clubs reached each of the European finals but they all lost, two to English clubs.

The standard in the PL is a lot higher than that in Serie A.

Anyway, Vicario it is. I hope he does well but I would've been a lot happier with Raya.
Not legitimately, but Empoli did concede less than us last season so that's got to be a good thing, right?

There is a lot you don’t know. We are interested. We will just have to wait and watch

On Alex Scott :ange-clap:

Shameless bunch , but I suppose it gives the masses over there excitement

Fucking hell, completely different league.

I don't get the spin, if you're playing the 'percentages' you go with the known not the unknown and we know that Raya is a good keeper, established in the PL and already based in London.

The club are just going for cheap and hope enough of them turn out to be hits. The managerial appointment was an indication that we are aiming low, signings like Vicario just reinforce this direction.

I'm not into the analytics but obviously the eye test, I saw Mesllier do a thing where he sort of half commits and then gets stranded because of hesitation. Few really odd positional stuff from Vicario too. But I admit I am the least qualified when it comes to a keeper.

I couldn't tell how good a GK positioning is until the ball goes in.

Vicario looks a bit unorthodox even to me.

Mentalist saves though. even on the floor, he used his feet to make impossible second saves more than once.

Could be a lot of fun to watch but also a bit mental. Tbf Lloris was like that even at his peak.

There’s football life beyond the EPL and the latter rounds of the UCL, which is all most posters here (and the Spurs Twatterati) know.
There’s also a close to 100% markup for inter-EPL transactions especially if they’re homegrown. You also do know what the floor and probable ceiling is on your targets and given how Spurs spend and the revenue streams of each club, it means that we’re not very likely to get those current EPL players with the highest ceiling.
This is how you get a Richarlison, known commodity at 12 goals a year, at 60m rather than Mitoma for 3m. Other than the twice relegated Ramsdale, I don’t think any of the top keepers in the EPL were Inter-divisional transfers.

People still think spend big money is backing or showing ambition, it's such a foolish argument and lacks context.
Do you think Woolwich showed more ambition than us last summer?

I think one of the most prevailing reasons we never win anything, and the reason serial winning managers fail for the first time
working for Levy is because we cheap out on the managers targets and show an absolute lack of ambition compared to our peers.

It's not even an argument. There's 23 years of evidence and the words of numerous ex managers to back it up.

You cannot continue to challenge for major titles spending small money

For 20 years there is this owner, they win nothing. Why?

Spending big money to secure your first choice target is showing ambition.

For you to dress it up any other way is utter nonsense

Seems to be pronounced "Gwee-elmo", more or less...

£40m for Raya would've made him the the joint 4th most expensive goalkeeper of all time. With 1 year on his deal. And he's widely regarded as 'pretty good' but not in the top bracket of keepers.

That deal just doesn't make sense.

Saving 20-30m could be the difference in us getting another player in this window or getting one of our top targets at centre half vs someone further down our list of targets.

Not that i know anything about the bloke we are about to sign, but I can see why the Raya deal wasn't done.

Another utterly ridiculous post.
Harry Kane plays for the 8th best team in the EPL and Gabriel Jesus plays for the 2nd best team. So, Jesus > Kane??? I don’t fucking think so.
Why are we interested in Maddison and Barnes? They were relegated. Why did Woolwich buy the (twice) relegated Ramsdale??

Great players start somewhere. Very few play at their highest level club from the get go.
