There’s football life beyond the EPL and the latter rounds of the UCL, which is all most posters here (and the Spurs Twatterati) know.
There’s also a close to 100% markup for inter-EPL transactions especially if they’re homegrown. You also do know what the floor and probable ceiling is on your targets and given how Spurs spend and the revenue streams of each club, it means that we’re not very likely to get those current EPL players with the highest ceiling.
This is how you get a Richarlison, known commodity at 12 goals a year, at 60m rather than Mitoma for 3m. Other than the twice relegated Ramsdale, I don’t think any of the top keepers in the EPL were Inter-divisional transfers.
Remember how the pundit class cried for ages when Pep binned off Joe Hart. Bravo didn’t work out but you can’t say the same for Ederson.

Italy definitely has a stronger record of producing top class keepers than England does.

Brentford have done fantastically well since they've come up and Raya has been a crucial part of this. Not sure why you're downplaying their achievements?

Also, Raya has broken into the Spanish squad so he must be doing something right.

I don't know, £40m doesn't even sound that much for one of the (apparently) richest clubs in the world. Top ten I believe.

Just seemed a no-brainer to me. I guess this is the new Tottenham, lost of risky relatively cheap signings of players most of us have never heard of.
Or maybe Ange's knowledge of the transfer market is just more savvy than most
Every club he has worked at has had tight financial restraints so he has had to be clever how he has acquired his targets.
Now he is with us he'll have a bigger budget but is still aware of talents throughout the footballing world

Like others, I suspected the rumours about Vicario were a cunning plan from Levy to try to get Brentford to lower the Raya price.

Turns out it was a real move to get a GK at half the price we were being quoted for Raya.

We shall see whether Vicario is a good fit for PL, & whether he will even bother competing for the ball at corners etc.

But the kncck-on effect is that clubs such as Leicester now know that if they ask for crazy money for a player in the last year of his contract, like Maddison, we will switch to another target. No bluff, but for real.

If the barcodes sign Tonali, and Neves in the dodgiest of dodgy deals, then they will be out of the Maddison running, and Leicester may have few other suitors with deep pockets.

Do you think Woolwich showed more ambition than us last summer?

I think one of the most prevailing reasons we never win anything, and the reason serial winning managers fail for the first time
working for Levy is because we cheap out on the managers targets and show an absolute lack of ambition compared to our peers.

It's not even an argument. There's 23 years of evidence and the words of numerous ex managers to back it up.

You cannot continue to challenge for major titles spending small money

For 20 years there is this owner, they will nothing. Why?

Spending big money to secure your first choice target is showing ambition.

For you to dress it up any other way is utter nonsense
The problem with your argument is always that you come across as 'the higher the fee, the better'.

If Raya was £20m and Vicario was £40m, you'd argue that we should buy Vicario.

It's what you do. It's your schtick. It's no deeper than that for you.

The way the deal was done, def comes off more tactical than our usual style.

And you are right, Leicester will have pause when it comes to holding out on Maddison.

Yeah, because after 23 years of penny pinching, Levy is suddenly going to change his entire philosophy and outspend everyone and completely back the manager. Obviously.

While I can't claim to know the future, you can make educated guesses based on past behaviour.

Levy fanboys are hilarious
You mean the half Billion he's spent over the last 4 years?

"Educated" guesses...

I think we should have paid £45m myself. You know, since we're so rich we might as well throw in an extra fiver.

Again for what is probably the millionth time it's been explained to you, compare Liverpool's spend over the last 5 years or so to Everton's spend, which team has spent the most and which team is more successful?

It's not about how much you spend, it's about what you spend it on.
