Spoken to the one guy I know who religiously watches Serie A. Massive Inter fan. Says of Vicario: ‘he’s a steal’ at what we paid and that if he had gone to one of the bigger Italian clubs this year - and several were linked - then he would have cost Maignan money to prise away next year.

These are the sort of deals we've been crying out for tbh.

As far as Tapsoba is concerned, I think Leverkusen will say it's 55mil and not a penny less...and that's before we even get to bonuses. They know what they've got and that if he had another big season for them, he'd either stay to play CL football or go to Bayern/City/Real/PSG for 80+.

I just don't see us spend that kind of money, not when we've got such a bloated squad. If we somehow managed to get a few mil for Sanchez, Dier, GLC & co, then yeah perhaps. But I'd be stunned if we invested big on him or another CB before we shift some deadwood.

More likely we'll get one or 2 backup type dudes first, then have a pop at Tap later on if the stars align.

Yeah, so Tapsoba will be where I judge Levy's ambition for this exact reason.

Like it or not, they flopped Conte for CBs. Whatever excuse you want to make, Lenglet on loan didn't cut it and we conceded a shit load of goals.

If they are serious, they will pay what Leverkusen want. If they move on from their #1 target at CB for the second summer in a row, Levy can take a fucking hike.

Surely Levy can't be that stupid? CB has been an area of utter disaster for us pretty much since prime Jan and Toby. We've signed one decent CB in like 7 years.

I'd rather have a proper CB and no backups than to go into the end of the window fingers crossed again.

I understand that Buffon has some experience for Italian clubs such as Juventus.

But what he doesn’t have is understanding of English conditions, our weather etc. But I do. I was A team goalkeeper at U14 level at my school.

Having watched Vicario on YouTube, I do not think he will adjust to English winds. Risky purchase.

Yeah for sure.

Expectations have to be very different when you just finished 8th and are going for Tapsoba and Adaraboiyo, compared to the season before when you finished 4th and are going after Bastoni and Gvardiol...

Tapsoba and Tosin come off as players that can be Top 4, Cup challenging level players but maybe don't expect it in season 1. Vicario the same type of profile IMO.

You'd have to think the jump would be bigger for Hatate than Tosin?

Top 6, Cup run, good football... Great start for Ange, agreed.
The thing is if we can put together a functional side that dominates the ball again, and have some semblance of a defence that actually defends, then with Kane playing the way he has been the last 18 months anything is possible. If it is his last season here, he’ll give it everything to make a it a successful one.

Airfixx Airfixx and the Levy Loving lynch mob out in full force tonight

Deuterz Deuterz already a fallen hero
What'd he get banned for? All I saw was him defending his point of view on this thread, so feels a bit harsh. Especially when some on here do worse, like say brand someone a racist just cause you've made them look a right fool for days. That totally out of order shit is sin-bin material. So yeah not sure what Raum did.

That a permanent ban or just a few days?

If Kane hasn't signed, by January he can start agreeing on pre-contracts. I doubt he will but the speculation will be the only thing anyone talks about. The pressure in the whole squad could fuck them.

As professional as Kane is, if he hasn't signed a contract, he will be risking fucking our entire season.

Wouldn’t surprise me if we are still interested in Raya, we do need two keepers after all. But now we don’t appear desperate and can either drive his price right down or go elsewhere again.
Forster is old. Neither Alfie or Austin will ever cut it at this level, I don't think. So wouldn't be a bad idea to start looking at 18-20yo English keeps playing in the lower division, even non-league.

I was never that excited about Raya, especially at 40mil. Always thought there was a better deal out there for us. If Gugli flops, well that's a 20mil I can live with wasting.

Same thinking re Maddison. There's just something about him, despite his mad stats, that makes me think 'stay away'.

If we're sticking with Serie A, there's that Domenico Berardi from Sassuolo who's just a beautiful player, but it looks like he's going to Lazio.

Ademola Lookman (HG) was superb for Atalanta last year...but would be very expensive. And likely wants to play in Europe.

I'd also like us to keep an eye on that kid striker from Torino, Pellegri. Big and strong, still very raw but bags of potential.
As someone who watches Serie A, Domenico Berardi is neither a player we need nor is he someone who looks like would do well in the Prem. He is a very good player in the Serie A though.

If we want players from Serie A that are realistic (not your Kvaradona’s of this world) to sign, relatively cheap for Premier League standards, still at a decent age and/or has potential and that would fit Angel’s style of play I would go for:

Maxime Lopez (Sassuolo), Sofyan Amrabat (Fiorentina), Lobotka (Napoli), Ibañez (Roma), Solbakken (Roma), Singo (Torino), Caprile (Bari - Serie B), Dodô (Fiorentina), Ranieri (Fiorentina), Umtiti (Lecce), Hjulmand (Lecce), Rabiot (Juventus), Maehle (Atalanta), Provedel (Lazio), Hysaj (Lazio), Boulaye Dia (on loan to Salernitana from Villarreal), Gosens (Inter), Nico Gonzalez (Fiorentina), Muldur (Sassuolo)

Though I don’t know how any of these players would pan out in the Premier League, I would certainly be happy with any of these signings were they to materialize.

You don’t have to spend stupid money on players if your scouts are good. Bentancur and Kulu are proof of good players coming from Serie A at reasonable prices.

If Tottenham signed one of the above (and assume Vicario was on this list) most of you would say ‘WHO!?’ because you don’t watch Serie A but he is a really good keeper wanted by most of the top Serie A clubs.

I would keep raiding the Serie A as in my opinion, we have had more hits (Bentancur, Kulu, potentially Odogie and Vicario) than failures in it (Gollini).

Pre contracts abroad in Jan, which is unlikely if he doesn't move this summer

If he doesn't sign a contract by Jan it's probably all decided where he will go imo

If we go from howler mode Hugo and Disaster Dier, to even just a moderately capable keeper and CBs, that alone should be worth something like 15 points, all else being equal.

Then there's Bissouma, Richarlison, Son and Kulu who could (and should) perform much better next season.

Hard for us to fall any lower tbh.
