Why would he only want to come to us and not Newcastle at all? One club finished 8th, the other is a CL team and looks to be on the way up.

Things are never as bad as they're seen on the outside.

Having a one off bad year doesn't permanently means things are always going to be bad, everyone knows things change quickly in football apart from fans who tend to live in the here and now.

Last year wasn’t a blip or a bad year.

The blip was when Conte got 4th, prior to that it was a 7th and 6th.

The pungent rot is from the top and hasn’t manifested fully into the first team yet - will get worse before it improves with these incompetent wankers at the helm

Newcastle have to do their build within FFP and it wouldn't be wild to suggest that they will struggle to balance CL and the league in the immediate future. I'd be a little cautious that the domestic teams and Chelsea are also on the same teat too.

More specifically, there is a real gap in weather and amenities between London and Newcastle. We would probably commit 70-75 million in wages to Maddison. For them to outbid us without causing themselves issues is no easy thing.
My guess is that Newcastle will figure out a way subvert FFP. Looks like they are aiming to add “loaned” players from Saudi clubs, and already have hit a fake shirt sponsorship. I don’t think they will struggle, they will just break the rules without repercussions. Man City 2.0.

They have a lot of headroom to spend as they were almost as frugal under Ashley as we are under Levy. Almost

Look at trends, not isolated seasons...we've qualified top four 5 times out of our last 8 seasons, we haven't finished as low as 8th under ENIC for 14 years prior to that, not sure about you but that kinda suggests that last season was a blip.

Surely you realise we can't just go out and spend big on all our targets. The squad needs upgrading in loads of areas of the pitch and we don't have unlimited funds...we need to think if that money can be better spent elsewhere.

If the choice was Raya and Kilman for 70m or Vicario and Tapsoba for the same price, which would you prefer?

Raya and Tapsoba for a bit more money

Because with us he will walk straight into the team and be a star player for years to come. At Newcastle, he's a rotation option.

Plus, we're "on the up". We've got a new manager with a reputation for fast, attacking football and, with a season out of Europe, we can do a lot more in the league and the domestic cups.

Rules are changing though. You can't transfer past underspending into the future model.I agree that multi-club ownership, dodgy sales back and forth to Saudi, increased onfield success and third party deals will see them on their way, but they can't just start running a 400 million payroll overnight.

Ok. Which four of you got banned there today?

:ange-hands-head:
He knew all along people, he just couldn’t say as he wanted to protect his source!
Now pay the man :levylol:

The rules are just guidelines any way if you happen to break them then you just pay a fine , it’s one of the many reasons a lot of people are failing out of love with the beautiful game!

The word is, he wants to come to London for his girlfriend. Whatever his reason is, the choice doesn't sit well with me. He's won the league and the FA cup, maybe he's not fussed with winning anything else and is just happy to collect a paycheck for the next 4 years.

Trend is downwards. I'm optimistic that Mourinho and Conte's systems have held us back but there is a good chance our future looks like Leicester's if Postecoglou flops.

In other words Newcastle have competition for places and we don't.

Maddison didn't win the league with Leicester. When they won the league in 2016, he was playing in League 1 for Coventry City.

Ange is not a miracle worker he needs the personnel to have a shot at being successful, if he gets players like Rodon, Gedson, Doherty, Danjuma, Lenglet, then no system will save him.
