I like to have a bit of fun at the owners expence, don't awlays feel you need to be a white knight in his defence. It's okay to put a little disagree symbol on my post, or just have a chuckle to yourself.

The Sun will still come up in the morning either way.
The problem is that it's more of an obsession with the owners than looking some fun at them.

And we're not defending the owners. We're correcting the factual errors in your arguments. We have a beef with the owners too, it's just that it's not that they're cheap or unambitious. It's that they've been very short sighted with how they have organized the football operations of the club believing they could manage it like they did 20 years ago, and haven't established a clear footballing vision.

Levy’s far too risk averse to do that though unfortunately isn’t he?
Depends on where he sees the risks, if he's even involved in the transfer dealings.

You have to sell the risk or more to the point, price the risk of not getting what we need against the cost of getting them.

I've priced risk in the past in my line of work. Granted my pricing included programme risk with liquidated damages factored in, but the principle remains the same. If he's seeing the outlay as risky, you have to show him that a lesser player, or no player at all, has a higher risk level.

As with attracting the players, it's all about how you sell it to the Chairman and board.

He will come around.

Obi Wan Mind GIF by Star Wars

Wouldn’t be against 3 at the back if Ange follows Pep’s idea. The tactics are similar.

Forget Maddison. Sign Tapsoba and VDV.

Attacking formation
Tapsoba - Romero - VDV
Bissouma - Sarr
Porro - Kulu - Kane - Richarlison - Son.

Bentancur for Sarr when healthy. Romero jumps further into the midfield too.

I'm getting definite 'Arnie Slot' vibes about Maddison coming...

Insomuch as BEFORE he turned us down, Slot gave every indication he was at least interested... and I allowed myself (naively) to get excited!!

Mind you, HAD he come, we'd have turned him into Christian Gross...

...as it is, he'll probably win the CL with Feyenoord!

Same with Maddison... The feeling is he MIGHT come, and as such, ATM I feel he has a 'Dele pre-pandemic' about him, (it all seemed to go to shit for Dele after lockdown didn't it??)
...but Maddison hasn't signed for us yet, so IF we get him, expect him to turn into somewhere between Stephane Dalmat & Danny Murphy!

...and if he goes to Newcastle, he'll turn into their Kevin de Breuyne!!

Tell me in any logical, right minded scenario how THAT works???
It doesn't, if you think logically. He's not a square peg for a round hole, is wanted by Ange, who would likely get the best of him once his system is up and running, and has regularly been putting up good attacking numbers, even for a relegated team.

I think he'd be a hit with us.

Im accused of being aloof or condescending but the reality is I make thoughtful points and there’s always a handful of idiots who make dumb posts like this. And it’s always from people who are unable to follow an argument. The amount of times people just make stuff up so there’s an easier position to ridicule than the ACTUAL nuanced point…

Notice that when someone like Ionman34 Ionman34 replies to me it doesn’t turn into condescension because he shows the respect of listening and responding to what was written rather than reaching first for ridicule.

I don’t care at all but I thought you’d appreciate the mirror.
Utterly tone deaf.

Are you defending the quality of that quoted post? Perhaps telling that you’re willing to intervene because of some perceived tone issue but happy to give completely disingenuous posts which purposely miss the point of a proper discussion a pass.

Engage with the words I say in good faith and there’s always a good discussion to be had, whether we agree or disagree.

The level of risk is reflected in transfer of his opinion of worth of the player though. In this regard we are right that Raya’s price was too high at £40m (and above his value too if you ask the market as nobody wants to pay it) and we probably think that Middison’s valuation isn’t worth it at £60m either, which is probably right. If that is the case then I expect we will move on.

The difference with Maddison over Raya though is that Leicester haven’t set a price like Brentford did because they just need the money and are obviously willing to negotiate the price. It’s why I think it will drag until we either move on or someone richer than us comes in for him.

IMO, Van de Ven, Tapsoba and Tosin are all good enough at dribbling, all progressive enough with their passes, good enough with their weaker foot and quick enough to play inverted FB too.

Time to get ruthless and bring all 3 in and sell Dier, Sanchez, Tanganga, Rodon, Davies, Sessegnon Regulion and Perisic.

Have Van de Ven fighting it out for LCB with Tapsoba and LB with Udogie
See I agree with you but I think people underestimate how hard it is to sell those guys! Clubs actually have to want to buy them!

Who’s gonna wanna buy Dier or Sanchez?

'Am I defending the quality of the quoted post?' I'm going to be honest I don't even know what that means. Are you asking me if I agree with the content? That might make sense, we are not at school (and I'm not the teacher)so it's subjective 'quality' wouldn't come into it.

If my statement was any kind of critique, then it would be in regard of the authorial tone. With you it oftentimes seems to come down to that. You can be insightful, intresting and perceptive. But mostly there is a tone: brittle, whiney, and pompous above all. You can be a hard read.

I think he'd be the perfect signing for us... And can really see him at Spurs...

But I thought that about Ndombele and Lo Celso, so the fuck do I know?

All I know is that in Dele's case - for reasons best known to him - decided to squander his undoubted talent and piss it all up nightclub walls...
I'm not saying his form dipped 'cos of Poch or bad management, it all seemed very much self inflicted.

Yet you look at how other clubs manage their players (Grealish at City for example) could've and did start to go down a very similar route at first, but the club got him to knuckle down, and now he only saves his public piss ups for AFTER the trophies are won, not halfway through the season!

It's a shame, cos we had such a player there in Dele... we HAD him!
...and then it all went away again....
Dele got his head turned badly, and we didn't intervene quickly enough... the signs WERE there though!

I can just see some occasional similarities with Maddison, thass all...

Hopefully Ange won't take any shit from any fucker who doesn't wanna give their all at ALL times.
