Newcastle fans are despicable, and they deserve every bit of bad luck they get. I never had a strong opinion abuot them other than their "big club" schtick alongside villa, leeds etc. a bit funny but felt they got a rough deal with the sports direct mug.

Now I realize they deserved Ashley and worse.

I really wouldn't be opposed to giving Regui another chance.

I swear it has nothing to do with the pictures posted on the previous page.

Really wonder if they struggle and get knocked out CL early, does the shadow of an unemployed Nagelsmann start to grow over Eddie Howe.

Those owners will want a big name in before they really hammer the spending.

Which would be great because Howe is class and will do well wherever he is, hopefully not at newcastle

I don’t think so.

Unfortunately, it looks like their new owners have twigged that they mustn’t make a splash; rather a slow, incremental rise up the table.

Every fanbase is crammed with all sorts.. ours included. Loudest, dumbest and abrasive voices amplified. They'll struggle a bit this season and the fans should calm down some

Any reason we couldn't get both?

I doubt that fee and wages would be an issue. If only one of them works out, we flip the other and maybe break even on him, but we're left with one asset who either adds to the first team, or we make a decent profit from if we end up selling.

For the money being touted for each, I don't see a downside to bringing both in.

Well, we completely bloated squad at the moment so we probably need to shift some players out before we start thinking of bringing in two more just because.

I mean I watched every game and don’t recall him ever playing as any sort of inverted full back. He’s better deep, because he has no technical ability to impact the game in the final 3rd.

Regardless, even if they were his best games, he just isn’t good enough for a top club.

This argument gives me flashbacks to last summer where Dier was good in a CB3 because he had a purple patch and we needed a LCB instead.

Dier is very very limited, so is Emerson. It absolutely cannot be our plan to play this guy as a starting RB next season, and to refer back to the original post I quoted - the prospect of him being “one of our best players” will only happen if we’re mid-table.
Sorry but this is rubbish. I was at Anfeild when he was absolutely fantastic as we left the ground Scoucers were asking us how much we wanted for him. He is a solid deffender in a team that lacks them. Selling him because he was donkey of the week for a few fans is daft. I'd sell nearly all our back four before Emerson. He could even play RCB he easily be better than Dier.

Bringing in two players (who arent even that young) who might struggle to get consistent gametime for even a Brentford or Bournemouth, in a season when we have no European football, after a season in which 50m Richarlison struggled for minutes  with European football. Would be a mad thing to do. If a young players from a fringe league stands out in scouting/data as having extremely high level breakout potential, go for it, and give them a pathway.

You forgot to go back 5 years and work out costs we 'inherit' from previous years - including Ndombele £65m, Lo Celso £45m and Reguilon etc
ndombele would be 6 years? I think that's how long his contract was for. those quotes (5 years) were the length of contract. as I understand it, the transfer fee is normally spread out over the length to the contract? although, apparently that's not always the case.

That's fair.

We do appear to be gaining momentum with a few of our peripherals though, so there's that.

Also, if it's about getting the talent early, with a view to loaning them out to develop, I don't see them having too much of an impact on squad numbers. Chelsea have been doing this for years.

how much have we spent?

kulusevski 25 ÷ 5years = 5m
vicario 17m ÷ 5 years = 3.4m
maddison 40m ÷ 5years = 8m
porro 45m ÷ 5years = 9m

so we've spent 25.4m so far x 5years = 127m

although these figures are plucked out of someones arse nal
We don't spend the money over the contract, for accounting purposes the cost is amortized over the contract length. When we pay the cash is negotiated between buying and selling clubs.
