Management Ange Postecoglou

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Ostensibly about transfers but the video provides a really good explanation of Ange’s system at Celtic. Ange is gonna need time - Because alot of players don’t suit Ange’s system - Don’t think this is news to anyone but video does a great job of explaining it IMHO

Apologies is this has already been posted.

What do you think?

Sounds to me like if he fails it will be because of the players not buying in.
It's always the managers fault when the manager doesn't win. They know that's what they sign up for. The "Big Ange" bit will buy him more time than most get, but he has to win. He's not at Spurs to make a feel good movie about an unlikely hero with unorthodox methods. This is the English Premier League, not a Netflix movie.

Ange's system

You mean the one where he had by far the best team in the league? If he tries that at Spurs we'll be cannon fodder.

People going gaga about his time in Scotland might want to check if he got the better of Gerrard's Rangers let alone what Beale was about to do to him.

We were cannon fodder most of last season sitting back and trying to pinch a goal.

There isn't a reason that Ange's system can't work that isn't based in traditional, emotional thinking.

It could go wrong but it didn't for Poch.

Good interview today, saying the right things, but was impressed by his presence more than anything. If Conte and Jose were like skittish thoroughbreds, Ange feels like an ox.

So, that’s the entire sum of my razor sharp analysis.

(Should write a few paragraphs here on the need to keep expectations down, but in all honestly, I’m getting bloody excited again.)

Pretty sure he showed Gerrard up for the fraud he was. Not only did he send him packing, he pretty much ruined his managerial career in the process.

Didn't know huns were allowed on here.

Ange destroyed Gerrard and Beale never laid on a glove on Ange when it mattered. Clueless Beale would've been gone by Xmas if Ange had stayed in Scotland.

And for those thinking Ange doesn't have a plan B... he tweaks the system with different players rather than different formations and philosophies.

He's dominated other leagues as well, taking unfancied sides to titles. Whatever you think of the level, it's still worth remembering that Australia and Japan are salary-capped leagues, so he wasn't able to outspend others like at Celtic.

Gerrard's time at Rangers is a myth. He won one trophy out of a possible 9, and he won it in the weird Covid season with no fans. Regardless though, he had exactly one match against Ange (which he wasn't even present for, due to having Covid I think) which was Ange's first Old Firm when he was still instilling his methods. Rangers won 1-0 at Ibrox despite Celtic arguably being the better side on the day. So I don't think you can take too much from that head-to-head.

But as for Beale... please. Beale had 4 meaningful matches against Celtic, each of which he absolutely had to win to have any chance of staying in the title race or to progress in cups, and he failed to win a single one of them. One draw and three losses.

But aye, I'm sure he had Postecoglou's number.

:ange-lol:

He ruined his managerial career by getting him to go from Scotland to the biggest league in the world?

Sent him packing as well? Yeah I’m sure Gerrard would have rejected Aston Villa if Ange wasn’t about.

Why did he reject Newcastle then?

Couldn't have been because he was up against the worst Celtic team in history and realised he may actually win something at the 9th attempt, right?

No course not.

He ruined his managerial career because at Rangers, he had people like you fooled into thinking he was a good coach. He had him packing for Villa and got showed up as the average chancer he was. Cruising on his name.

Pre takeover Newcastle? Probably because they were fucking broke. Villa were struggling but had money & a decent squad. It was an attractive job. Unai Emery now works there.

You’re fucking deluded if you think any SPL manager rejects a wealthy, decent PL club to stay there. Rodger’s left Celtic to go to Leicester.

Going from SPL to PL isn’t having your career ruined and isn’t being run out of town. It’s a step up. Gerrard joined Villa with a good rep, he ruined it there, not at Rangers.

Just chatting pure wham as usual.

Actually no. I was mistaken, it was when they were searching for a manager post Bruce. About a week after they were taken over by the Saudis.

Let me guess, that's less of a step up than a relegation battling 16th placed Aston Villa is it?

Chatting pure wham indeed. Werey.

“Interestingly, Steven Gerrard was one of the individuals that Newcastle United had high on their list, they did have contact with him and made a proposition for him to become the new manager of the club, but Gerrard backed away from that job because he felt it was too much of a jump into the dark. He didn’t know who he would be working with, he didn’t know the structure of the club and there you have a demonstration of a coach who is making rational long-term decisions with a career goal in mind,” Castles said.

Oh boy, sure is good proof that Ange ruined his career..

I loved his interview, the more I hear him, the more I like him. Comes across as knowing what he wants and will do his utmost to get there.
He's got a lot of sifting to do but hope that we can all hold our nerve and give him time to get his ideas and coaching across to the team.
