Perisic, 34, has 12 months on his deal and is attracting interest from a host of European clubs.

Hojbjerg has two years remaining on his contract and Spurs will demand significantly more than the £15million they paid Southampton for the 27-year-old, although they are yet to receive any official proposals.

All I know is psg won’t let mbappe go for a free so trying to sell him to Madrid now. So Madrid having an unexpected clear out. Not sure how good/important valverde is.
Worse than that, if he plays this season he's due a 90m loyalty bonus... He will probably want that from a buying club meaning a buying club is likely to want to wait to get him on a free

Badi knew he would not have to wait long.
IMO if we sign Taps we won't sign VDV.
I don't agree that we need 3 more CBs. My guess is we play 2 CBs instead of 3 this season.
Let's assume that we sign VDV and that he is considered 1st choice.
Romero VDV
Dier Lenglet
Royal Davies
Apart from Romero all these guys can play in more than one position.
Those options outside the first 2 are abysmal. Genuinely bottom 5 stuff. Factor in VDV being young and in a new league and Romero's injury record. You could easily see plenty of occasions having Dier and Lenglet in a 2, playing a high line and they would get ripped to shreds by anyone even half pacy. They were bad enough in a 3, the mind boggles.

Didn't we part exchange him for KWP?

I suppose it will be 4-3-3 so the defence will have a lot more protection from midfield than last season.
Apparently none of Dier, Davies or Royal are up for sale.

As discussed before, that simply isn't entirely true, not in reality. For example, at City, Alvarez is not the same level as Haaland, yet City don't appear to be seeking someone the same level as Haaland to fight him for his spot. The best clubs sign some players at the top level they can, and some players at the next level down. I know you don't like that, but it's just how it works, and it needs to work like that in order for the players to sign.

Also see:

Ake, Akanji, Phillips... And Navas, Boney, Dzeko, Torres, Rodwell and no doubt others that I've long forgotten.

This doesn't mean you can't end up playing first team football.

That’s some loyalty bonus! Not sure what’s Madrid’s incentive to pay so much more to get him a season early. Psg say they won’t let him go for free but how can they stop it. It’s getting complicated!

And those 3 staying is ok. Emerson is a decent right back and Davies is alright cover but they arent centre backs in a 2. We just need a better central defender than Lenglet. 3 good ones and Dier seeing out his last year is fine.

The lb thing is the most glaring point and it's odd how it gets talked around. The position is a big question mark for us this coming season and VDV suits the role perfectly to dovetail with Udogie for the year. Add in games at cb whenever Tapsoba/Romero would be injured/rested/form dipping and you have a player in 25-30 or more games in the season and European football in the seasons beyond this one.
Both RB and LB is a bit of a mess thanks to Conte.
I haven't a clue as to who will be first choice from this lot:
Porro, Spence, Royal
Perisic, Udogie, Sess, Reggie, Davies, (VDV?)
