I don’t give any £60m player a pass, what he produced wasn’t good enough. There were some unbelievable sitters he missed from about 5 yards out.
We could have played Dane Scarlett instead of Richi last season and I doubt he’d have done worse. He doesn’t need excuses made for him, he had a terrible season and didn’t show any real quality. Remember that his best ever season at Everton was like 12 league goals, he has to exceed that next season to even reach the baseline we should be expecting from such an expensive player.
Or it could simply be that moving to Spurs is upward mobility and he backs himself. I'd even go so far as to say that he likely doesn't give a flying fuck who else we sign in defence, he'll back himself to nail down the starting spot.
